Orbi: True mesh

Feature request: Make it possible for satellites to connect to each in order to extend coverage in tall or long houses.

Background:

I live in a four story town house and have bought the Orbi system in order to get better wifi on the top floor. The base is placed in the center of the ground floor which gives great coverage for the ground floor and the first floor. The satellite is placed on the second floor and extend the wifi to the third floor. On the fourth floor the is no wifi coverage:( I would love to buy a second satellite and place it on the third floor but I understand that this is not possible because it has to be within the reach of the base... I would love if Netgear could add the option for a "true mesh". This is also what I expected when I bought it because it is marketed as a mesh network.

  • This feature would be excellent. Our home is so large (two homes connected), that I feel the satellites would function better if they could connect to each other rather than all the way back to the router. :smileyfrustrated:

  • I see what you mean a lan cable running from point A to point B can and would be big problem. In you case you said it is two house made into one unless they share the breaker box power lan adapters may not be a help either so a true mesh system that relayed the wifi signal from points A too Z via a link between the Orbi unit would be best. As they stand now you have to place the base station Orbi in the middle of the mesh network so the others could link to it.

  • I have a 9,000 square foot home.  I thought I was buying a mesh network.  All I can get is a start network.  Reminds of the old Novell days with StarLAN.  I bought base and 3 satelites thinking they would daisy chain to the closes and strongest satelite signal.  I am going back to my Engenius mesh network, it is true mesh.  How do I load this stuff up and send it back to your engineering team?
