Rugged 4GLTE modem router

For people wanting to have the freedom traveling by Recreational vehicles and not wanting to sacrifice modern day life I'd loved to install a rugged device with the suitable power adapter. And a cool stuff would be to connect a rugged NAS to that device to stream videos and data to all the passengers!

  • By recreational vehicle I assume you are talking about a motor home or camping trailer type vehicle?   If yes, why would the device need to be ruggedized?  So you know, ruggedized in the networking equipment market usually means equipment that could be used by the military, on a humvee during a battle or something that could be mounted on a telephone pole in Phoenix, AZ in the summertime.

I think what you are looking for is something that you could use in an RV, which might get ruffed up a little?  If that is the case, there are devices in the industry called mifi.  A mifi is essentially a router that connects Wi-Fi devices to Wireless Broadband (a.k.a. 4G or LTE).  They are very small and you could probably duct tape/velcro one to the ceiling in your RV and it would survive.  Most of these devices (including Netgear routers) run in 12V DC, so you could wire it directly to the DC power system in your RV, suggest putting a fuse in line.  You can get a mifi from your wireless provider or Amazon, Best Buy type places.  http://www.nvtl.com/products/mobile-broadband-solutions/mifi-intelligent-mobile-hotspots/
