Unifed config file for router upgrade

It would be interresting to have a feature able to use the previous config from a R7000 (for example) and to be able use the config when you install it on a R9000 - X10.

It woul be a huge time saver!

  • Would save time for basic router settings more advanced may have to set up for any new features of the new router.

This is yet another example of a feature that could easily be added with the implamentation of a human-readable config backup.  This should about cover it:  Never rebuild a configuration from scratch again!

Hey, I had a Timex Sinclair 1000,  that brings back memories! Not only did it boast an impressive 6k of memory, I had the extra cartrige(as big as your fist) that expanded the ram to a mind-warping 16k!!!  My grandpa was convinced computers were evil, taking over his TV and making all that giberish on the screen...  surely they are the Beast of Revelations!  The rapture is at hand!   OMG!  LOL  I miss that old guy, he past away 20-some odd years ago, already in his 90's, back when these young whipper snappers daddys were in diapers.  ;)

  • I understand the coding of the new firmware may change the memmory locations on the nvram so the imformation stored there would be in the wrong loacation but there should be away to store a copy of your information to computer or storage device so it could be used to restore your settings be able to view them in text no graphics would be need.

  • For god sake to unify the way routers are configured on the entire portfolio should be easy!! A unique brand with its design should be able to do it for the sake of the users!!

  • I agree if you make a product like a router you should be able too standardize the set up menu and at a copy of your settings in a file so you can reload them onto a new router. May be time re design the firmware not sure with the many different types of chip set used by netgear it would work with older routers.

  • It would be more benificial if there were an XML-based config specification across all manufacturors/ models - not only could you pick/choose what you wanted to keep, you could modify the setup before importing it.
