Unifed config file for router upgrade
It would be interresting to have a feature able to use the previous config from a R7000 (for example) and to be able use the config when you install it on a R9000 - X10.
It woul be a huge time saver!

I really dont see the problem of enabling the usb port on the router to export or inport setup data about the routers setup as long the control planel dose not change in layout and functions. New functions and control designs may be the big problem.
William10athe thing I want to say is for example you have a R7000 you purchase an R8500.
Today you unplug the old one and replace by the new one and reconfigure the new one!
Tomorrow it would save us tons of painful time in reconfiguring the entire stuf just by :
saving the old config
unplug the old device
replug the now one
restore the old config into the new device.
in less than 6 minutes!
I have more than 30 devices + 30 for friends and familly!

Still possible with adjustments to the firmware before you remove the old router and install the new router by installing a firmware with this feature enable on both if the programmers could agree on a standard set of settings to be transfer. It should work just you said remove one router and replace with a new one. An online account that you transfer your settings and transfer to a new router later the server should be able to handle the difference in the control layouts. If it could read the firmware version number and translate between the routers.
Instead of an online stuff I would rather prefer a LAN stuff.
But anyway you got my point thanks!

Maybe app the would run your computer it would have to read the old before it is replaced and save it to a file and makes any adjustments to the new router the app could pre download the newest firmware for the new router and setup the new firmware with your settings. The app would have a load firmware to new router function.
I prefer a file you extract and you reuse rather than an other app.
I am old and prefer the old fashion way, when you can do without a program it is better!

Then your like me I remember the serial port and the term program in windows 31. to 95 great for trouble shooting serial data lines and update the early gps's when you could read the data in plain english and enter data too to the device.
Ever heard of the timex sincord a plastic cased computer with maybe 8k of memory and a tape record for storage the you assemble and use your tv as monitor power by the z80 micro controller?
The major issue to be program less is you have to get a well programmed device, and use resources properly.
My 17 y/o SMC modem router with a built in printer is handeling itself way way better than the readyshare app!
Why because back in the good old days we had very very limited resources and programers had to go to the point and spare the resources and save it to other usefull topic. Programers are spoiled and waisting resources and program lines!
The simpliest design is always the best!
The other issue is that 80% of the user population are dummies, listen to the stupid things they are saying in stores you can write books!

Place a old time computer in front of peolple running a mabye 1mhz at best and a 80 kbye hard drive and dail up modem they would be lost no wifi speeds jpeg type graphics on a crt monitor maybe 10 to 14 inchies wide.
Old programers did a better job because they had limited devices but they were running better and could run for at least a decade!
The other factor is that people using those gears were educated and knew what they were doing!!!
Now manuals are at least 200 pages pdf! They should spend more time refining their FW than writing in 30 languages their pdf!
When you ask teen for How long they can deal without their phones 1 week (no way!) hour yes!!
