CM1000 - questions about some issues after 14 months

I have a  CM1000 coupled with an Orbi CRB40 -

ISP is comcast - they came out last week and removed the inside the basement amplifier and all inside splitters because since i cut the cord i stream everything and only use 1 line into the attic that drops into the 2nd floor office for the 1 gig internet service.

since that visit internet has dropped 3x.....i doubt if the cm1000 just started acting funky after 14 months? after i reboot the modem and the orbi things are fine.

i had to pay for that original comcast visit - i could have 'fibbed' and said service was bad but i just wanted the lines identified so i can clean up all the extra comcast stuff coming in the house prior to a new home siding project planned.

Comcast is coming  back for free....i am thinking the line is still split outside and without the amplifier it drops occasionally......i guess the fix willl be to tell the guy to remove the split and then send him to the attic if readings are still funky, also the attic is split 4 ways since i used to run lines to each bedroom, now its just streaming off wifi with no issues, so i may need to send him up into my attic anyway (not the easiest to get into)

if all is good then i may have to get another 1gb or better modem.....but this one is only 14 months old...

just wondering if anyone has seen CM1000 failure after 14 months.

Re: CM1000 - questions about some issues after 14 months

The cm1000 has been a pretty solid reliable modem.

but anything can fail in 14 months. Its always possible.

Do you have a screen snip of the cable connection page and the event logs from the modem?

Re: CM1000 - questions about some issues after 14 months

i really think its due to the removal of the comcast signal booster/amplifier - even though i had one splitter that was removed when the amplifier was removed my theory is the unamplified signal is causing the occasional drops......having Comcast return and after they tell me for the 3rd time it all looks good i will have them put the signal booster back in.......(instead of just disconnecting the first one the original tech broke it off for some reason)

Re: CM1000 - questions about some issues after 14 months

Be sure to have them check the speeds at the modem with your wired PC and have them look at the modem logs while they are there.

Re: CM1000 - questions about some issues after 14 months

dropped again today - stayed down until manually powered on and off after 20 minutes different log message than before but one i have seen before in the community for a cm1000 with similar comcast issues

Re: CM1000 - questions about some issues after 14 months

caught in a modem situation here - open to recommendations for how to proceed.

As i said before the CM1000 started dropping intermittently after 14 months of flawless operation but also after comcast took out the amplifier i had (because they removed splitters they assumed no amplifier was needed). it has been dropping every couple days and sometimes daily, usually comes back online on its own but not always, but a reboot fixes it.

they are coming back for the 3rd time tomorrow to see what they can see.

should i insist on another amplifier?

could the cm1000 actually be malfunctioning on its own and need to be replaced?

I have a new Motorola MB6811 that i can switch out if this continues but i want to wait or comcast will probably charge me if i ask them to help me with a new modem of my own during the service call.

any thoughts?

Re: CM1000 - questions about some issues after 14 months

comcast came back for the 3rd time - as i expected - guy said it all looked good except he switched an outside (at the house) connector to a new type since he said the older ones can cause issues.

he also didn't have an amplifier (despite me requesting them to have the tech bring one) and explained it wouldn't help me (again not sure how it could hurt to put one back on)

He didn't want to look at the modem logs - said that wouldn't mean anything to him or something like that

So things have been running ok since he left but between 9am and noon last 2 days the modem has dropped and had to be rebooted.

if the modem keeps dropping - i will swap out to a new motorola MB8611 i purchased from Amazon a couple days ago to keep on hand as a backup (or return within 30 days if things stabilize)

if that motorola keeps dropping - time to either switch to verizon or rent a comcast modem........

Re: CM1000 - questions about some issues after 14 months

2 days with no interruptions since the tech switched out a connector (of some type) right outside the house.

checking the modem log i see once or twice each day

event code = 16 followed by event code = 24 ....less than a minute between msgs - i think it means there was an error (16) and its been corrected (24)

either way as long as no interruption i am ok....but is this something i should be concerned with?

Re: CM1000 - questions about some issues after 14 months

the CM1000 kept dropping once per day so i swapped it out for the motorola MB8611 ($169 for the 2.5gb capacity)

been in 2 full days with no issues so far

i like the modem running lights - larger and more color coded with meanings vs just on and off lights with the CM1000.

setting it up was a bit of an adventure since i don't do this everyday. had to remember to hardwire the modem back to the desktop vs runnng  it thru my orbi......then after it was connected had to cycle thru orbi by powering off modem and router in sequence.

then lots of orbit issues with firmware and satellites not working correctly - upgraded firmware and all seems ok now. (except for devices not showing up on the orbi admin desktop or mobile app and they were all there yesterday).....probably another PIA netgear flaw.

Re: CM1000 - questions about some issues after 14 months

Sounds like the NG modem maybe bad then.

Thanks for letting us know.

Enjoy.
