CM600 + Charter speed question

I currently have a Motorola SB6121 (6 years old, purchased early) and Charter Spectrum and am getting 60 Mbps download and 4 Mbps upload speeds.  Would I gain anything by updating to the CM600 cable modem?  We have a number of new devices in the house since it was first installed and I see things starting to bog down.  My wireless router is the Netgear Nighthawk R7000.  Other questions:  Will the CM600 be able to support Docsis 3.1 when it happens?  It looks like Charter would control my firmware level in the CM600.  Does that also mean they'll throttle back performance?  So I guess the bottom line is will I gain anything by updating to the CM600?

  • You can see Charter's list of recommended modems here.  You can see that Charter has certified the SB6121 for operation up to 60 Mbps.  The SB6121 is technically rated for operation up to 172 Mbps (source) but it's possible that it may not work at those speeds on Charter's network.  The CM600 is also on Charter's list of recommended modems.  I kinda doubt the CM600 will support Docsis 3.1.

Your Internet speeds will be governed by your Internet subscription.  If you are paying for 60 Mbps, then that's what you'll get, modulo some variation (people often get a little more than way they pay for).  You would need to upgrade your subscription to achieve higher rates.
