Phone line to Ethernet conversion?

Hi everyone, I just recently moved into a new apartment and was setting up when I saw that my Ethernet cable will not connect to the wall ports. From what I’ve gathered they’re ports for the phone, but I’m worried to buy an adapter for fear of it not working because of the “AT&T” claim on the plate (who I’d like to not get service from). Photo attached.

To summarize:

1: Should I buy an adapter for my Ethernet cable/would that work

2: Which port should such an adaptor be plugged in to (the green seems strictly AT&T, but it says broadband above it)

Thanks!

I don't know what that "adapter" would be.  Perhaps a DSL
modem(+router).  You really need to talk to someone who knows what's
    beyond the wall.

One sure thing is that the CM400 in your picture would be useless in
connecting to whatever this AT&T hole might be.
