Proper configuration of NightHawk R7000 behind CM1200 Modem
Greetings all
Looking for some configuration help
I have a CM1200 Cable modem provided by my cable provider. Although it has 4 ethernet ports, i have read several online comments about not direct connecting devices to the open 3 ports
The model IP is set to 192.168.100.1. It appears that although I do have access to the admin portal, there is really nothing I can change. It does not appear to have built in DHCP capabilities
I have a R7000 NightHawk wireless router (has 4 ethernet ports)
I currently have IP set to 192.168.100.5 (only because the CM1200 has 4 ports). I have DHCP enabled and I have IPs starting at 192.168.100.10
It appears everything is working EXCEPT that from my PC (192.169.100.16), which is connect to an ethernet port on the router, I cannot access the CM1200
I want to be able to have all my devices (wired and wireless) be able to be seen or communicated with. Previously I have connected my PC directly to the CM1200 but could not access my printer with is connected wirelessly via the R7000. I assume this is because before today, I had the R7000 configured on a 192.168.1.XX network and my PC was connected directly to the CM which was on a 192.168.100.XX network, no cross over i assume.
So today, I plugged my PC into the router, changed the configuration to what is referenced above but I cannot access the CM @ 192.168.100.1
So how should these be configured to talk to everything??

The CM series modem does NOT have any DHCP or router capabilities. The 4 WAN ports in back are ISP assignable WAN ports only. Meaning IF an ISP supports it, each WAN port in back could have a different WAN IP address from an ISP. Most home ISPs only allow for 1 WAN IP address.
The 192.169.100.1 is a web page management access address only. There are no other IP addresses coming from the CM modem in this sub net. Any PC or external router connected to one of the WAN ports on the CM series modem should be getting a ISP WAN side IP address in the format of ##.##.###.###.
You need to set the R7000 LAN IP address to 192.168.1.1 or you can use 192.168.0.1 for the LAN side and the DHCP pool range should be default. Or you can make it smaller. Recommend setting the default DHCP IP address pool range to the following after applying and a factory reset: 192.168.#.100 to 192.168.#.200.
