Router R6250 Can not turn off access to specific device and parental controls working terrible

My  son has gotten addicted to video watching and keeps on watching whole night when we are sleeping affecting his daily routine.

I ideally want to use different parental control per device, but looks like it would be too advanced for Netgear R6265. Because even basics are not working. My firmware is latest V.1.04.34.

  1. Can not turn off internet access for a particular device. I have tried Genie app (network map) and pointing browser to router on my Mac as well.
  2. Parental controls: On Genie app, when I turn on parent controls, even with no filtering level "None", it blocks all sites ! I created OpenDns account and tried on browser (other than Genie app). That does not affect at all. Ideally I want to keep parental control filtering level High during certain time, specifically on at night.

Help is highly appreciated !

Thanks.

    Hi sudhirkd,

    Welcome to the community!

    1. The LPC (Live Parental Controls) settings may not take effect immediately after configuration. Please make sure that the steps on link below are followed.

    http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/25687

    2. Have you tested the Access Control feature? If not, you may refer to page 97 of the user manual linked below.

    3. What you can try is use a combination of features: Address reservation, Schedule, and Block Services.

First, you can do Address Reservation for your kids devices and set them on a range (i.e. 192.168.1.2-192.168.1.10). Steps are linked below.

    http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/24091

Second, set a schedule (i.e. 22:00 to 06:00). Steps are linked below.

    http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/24055

Third, set to block all services. Steps are linked below.

      Thanks for the reply.

      1. I used the Genie app on my Mac. But even "Minimal" setting of Parental Controls blocks whole internet just like when I tried from my iPhone Genie app. Because of that I could not try "Custom Settings" to see what it offers. When I change settings does it apply both wireless networks ? NetgearXX and NetgearXX-5G. Or should I disable one to force all devices to connect to one to make Parental control works better?
      2. This option will not work for me. I do not want to block the internet access based on MAC address. It is complex and the devices my kids use can change. But I really want to block complete internet access for a particular device when I want to. I can try "custom" level by selecting all categories to block for particular time. but again main problem is, once I enable  parental controls button, it blocks all sites irrespective of level I select.
      3. This option as well, Setting up IP addresses for kids computer does not work because kids can change device. I have already setup time slots on OpenDNS.

So my biggest problem is once I enable Parental Controls, all internet is blocked even with "None" or "Minimal" level. And I must turn on Parental Controls to make time-block effective.

So Please help to solve this issue.

      Thanks
