Nighthawk CAX80-help setting up internet FTP to USB Readyshare

I need help setting up my CAX80 to connect via FTP-internet to a USB Drive connected to the router-modem. I followed directions in the manual, I think the issue is with the DNS. I used the Netgear DNS service, which led me to the NOIP website to set up the DNS. I downloaded the DNS service to my computer. Of course I can access the USB drive through my LAN local network, but I cannot connect from outside the LAN via the internet. I think it has to do with the NOIP setup. It asked me what device/software I was connecting to, and I said FTP, but wasn't sure about the rest of the settings. It wanted me to put in an IP address, or select from the connected devises, but my USB drive didn't show up as connected with an IP address. I'm definitely a novice when it comes to networking. I have an out of state office that I would like to connect to my home CAX80 that has backup files on the USB drive.

      Yes, of course I followed those steps. I believe the problem lies with the NOIP DNS account I was transferred to. They asked several questions about what type of connection I wanted that are not covered in the Netgear manual.
