R6220 only showing USB LED light, not even the Power light is on

We just got a new internet service and are trying to connect to our R6220 router. It seemed to be working at first and we were prompted to do a firmware update. The update ended (we are unaware if it even completed or not), and now we are unable to connect to the router at all. When we turn it on, all the lights flash on for a couple seconds, then they all turn off except for the USB light (there is no USB connect to it). We have tried unplugging and restarting everything from the beginning, but we end up back to just the USB light.

Any ideas of what could be happening or what we can do?

    Welcome to NETGEAR Community!

You can try to reset the device for 30 seconds if it helps. These light represent that it might be defective already.

Try connecting a computer and check what the IP address connected to a LAN port.

I'm also facing the same issue the router is not pingable so I can't try the tftp method. I have tried nmrpflash with older as well as newer firmwares but after rebooting the usb light and the respective ethernet LED will glow.

Me too~ i failed to update firmware 1.1.0.104. And only USB light is on after reboot. I also tried to use tftp and nmrpflash to fix but fail too.
I can find few similar cases from Internet. I think that may be a problem of that firmware 1.1.0.104.
  • Hi,

I have the same issue ... after firmware upgrade to the newest version (V1.1.0.106) my router is a brick :(

I tried using a tftp utility toflash the firmware without success. Any other methods?

The TFTP recovery scheme is a multi-step procedure which offers
multiple opportunities for user input, hence user error.  By itself,
saying that you "tried" it doesn't say much.  "without success" also
provides approximately no useful information.  (One bit, I suppose.)

As usual, showing actual actions (commands) with their actual results
(error messages, LED indicators, ...) can be more helpful than vague
descriptions or interpretations.  Especially when using a command-line
      program, copy+paste is your friend.

I got the log from serial port and it's seems like the flash chip got too many bad blocks. So we have to change the flash chip from pcb and then we will be able to perform nmrp flash. I haven't tried this because I don't have enough tools to perform this. I got this info from https://github.com/jclehner/nmrpflash/issues/69
  • I have returned this router back to Amazon who sent me refurbished product instead of brand new. Now I am happy with GPON+ONT dual band router provided my ISP.
