routerlogin.net

Trying to connect my Nintendo Switch to Netgear wifi router, but the router's settings did not allow me to connect my swtich. I was initially able to access the routerlogin.net /192.168.1.1 and change the security settings, but the new settings would not save. I tried logging in using my Macbook, but was unable to access the site. I'm not unable to access it on any device in my house, and can't figure out what to do from here. If anyone could help, I would greatly apprecaite it. Thank you!

Re: routerlogin.net

What settings would not save?

What exactly where you changing?

What router do you have?

Why wouldn't the "router's settings' not let the switch connect?

Worse case scenario, factory reset the router and start back at factor. Push and hold reset for 7-15 seconds while its powered on.

then reinstall it with how you'd like it setup.

Model number?  Firmware version?  Connected to what?  Any useful
information at all?

_Which_ "settings"?  How, exactly, did these "settings" stop you from
doing anything?

   _Which_ "the security settings"?

A vague description of what does _not_ happen is less useful than a
clear description of what _does_ happen.

"unable" is not a useful problem description.  It does not say what
you did.  It does not say what happened when you did it.  As usual,
showing actual actions (commands) with their actual results (error
messages, LED indicators, ...) can be more helpful than vague
descriptions or interpretations.

You're ahead of me.  I can't figure out what you've done so far.

Re: routerlogin.net

I just updated this post with the model information! I attempted to change the security settings from TKIP to AES. There were two areas in the wireless settings on routerlogin.net that I made this change to. I clicked "apply changes" and nothing would be changed. The Switch message said "This network's settings are not supported. Please choose a different network". I looked this up, and that usually means the security settings on the router are not supported on Switch.

Re: routerlogin.net

What were you doing when you tried this?

192.168.1.1 and change the security settings, but the new settings would not save. I tried logging in using my Macbook, but was unable to access the site.

What "site"? The browser graphical user interface?

What message did you get. I'm afraid "unable to access the site" isn't enough to go on.

What else is on your network? A modem? Something else?

Did you try this?

Search - NETGEAR Communities – Nintendo Switch

Lots of hits.

Your problem may stem from the age of your WNDR4000. This device has its origins back in 2010. I bet your Nintendo Switch isn't that ancient. A lot has change on the router front in the past 12 years, especially on the security front.

A Nintendo support forum should also be able to help you which settings to investigate.

Do you mean BASIC > Wireless : Security Options (for each radio), or
what?

If you did reasonable things (which I can't see), and "Apply" did
nothing, and no actual error message was emitted, then I'd suspect the
firmware.

> [...] Firmware version? [...]

Still wondering.  If your firmware is current, then you might try a
settings (misnomer: "Factory") reset, and manual reconfiguration.

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your (actual) model number,
and look for Documentation.  Get the User Manual (at least).  Read.
Look for "Reset".

Thanks for the helpful link(s).  According to:

      https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/27644

practically anything better than "None" should work.  But, if the router
fails to accept a legitimate settings change, then I'd wonder what it's
doing.

Re: routerlogin.net

The other problem is that I can't get into the access control ( https://www.routerlogin.net or https://www.routerlogin.com)

I was initially able to change the security settings of the network on those websites, but now my internet browsers will not let me access these sites. I'm getting the standard "this site can't be reached" on my Macbook.

The wifi router is 10 years old. Maybe it's time for a new one?

Regarding "can't", see "not a useful problem description [...]",
above.

> [...] https://www.routerlogin.net or https://www.routerlogin.com [...]

Try "http://" instead of "https://" (as in the instructions)?

> The wifi router is 10 years old. Maybe it's time for a new one?

It's obsolete junk, but so is at least half my inventory.  Perhaps
it's time actually to _read_ the User Manual, and not just skim over it.
