Screwed sshd Service

Hello

I feel like I am an hopeless case, however I will post my problem.
Sometime ago I have decided to use my ReadyNas Ultra 2 only through ssh services (sftp, scp, sshfs).
For this purpose I have installed RootEnable SSH add-on.
I have disabled root ssh access and password authentication but only allow one particular user to use ssh through rsa key authentication.
I have put the public key of that user to authorized_keys file and everything was fine.

Before opening up port 22 in my router and expose my ReadyNas to whole world I thought to make my connection a bit more secure I should create more secure host_rsa_key pair.
For this purpose I have used ssh-keygen command and created 4096 bit rsa key.
When I restarted the sshd service I got
Could not load host key: /etc/ssh/ssh_host_rsa_key
Could not load host key: /etc/ssh/ssh_host_dsa_key
At some point I had to log out from the machine and now I cannot log back in I think because sshd cannot start.

I have tried the OS-reinstall from boot menu. No help.
I have reinstalled RootEnable SSH add-on. No help.
I have installed ToggleSSH add-on. In this case I think sshd service runs but it does not let me to login.

Any suggestions?

O.K. Instructions but after modifying the OS partition you should:

    # cd
    # sync
    # umount /mnt
    # mdadm --stop --scan
  • Thanks for the replies.

I have solved the problem in a way which was suggested by mdgm in private messages, a way similar to the one explained at
    http://readynas.sphardy.com/2010/09/restoring-ssh-access_4574.html

1- From my own ubuntu machine (with a running ssh server) I have zipped the /etc/ssh folder.
2- uploaded the zipped file to the readynas through the frontend.
    3- Reinstalled the RootEnable add-on.

    Regards
