3 port lag question.
We have 3 of those swit hes in a stack. I have a lag set up using 1/0/11, 2/0/11, 3/0/11 at switching > lag configuration 2 ports are active and lag state is UP the target switch is a M4...
- Retired_MemberJul 13, 2017
Ok, I known your concern.
Could you please change port-channel load-balance to default 3, and try again?

Hi robfantini,
Yes, we can see all ports of Unit3 status is Detach, it's mean Unit3 cannot working normally.
Would you please reload unit3(CLI command: reload 3) and try again.
After Unit3 reboot success, please execute CLI command as below:
1. show switch
2. show port 3/0/1
3. show port 3/0/11
3/0/1 PC Mbr Enable Auto Detach Enable Enable Disable 3/0/2 Enable Auto Detach Enable Enable Disable 3/0/3 Enable Auto Detach Enable Enable Disable 3/0/4 Enable Auto Detach Enable Enable Disable

It looks better, I'll do more testing

Still testing - could use some advise.
My test is to plug one wire only into 1/0/1 . do test then move wire to 2/0/1 , then 3/0/1 ]
From the host that uses the lag I ping out.
tests:
to ping to another switch . after a 6-7 second delay ping works.
to a virtual machine only ports 1/0/1 and 2/0/1 ping after 7 seconds.
however for 3/0/1 after 20 seconds ping to the virtual machine does not work.
I'll do more testing tomorrow.
If you have any suggestions let me know
best regards
Roberto.

Hi obfantini,
What switch type for LAG1 neighbor? Does it support LACP mode LAG type?
As the default mode of LAG is static, it's better change mode to LACP. So I suggest you change the LACP mode and test again.
Hope it can helps!
- robfantiniJul 10, 2017Aspirant
thank you for the reponse.
we use this: 6 Src/Dest IP and TCP/UDP Port fields
- robfantiniJul 10, 2017Aspirant
I'll try to fully reply now.
What switch type for LAG1 neighbor? It is a proxmox host this is the network/interface setting
auto bond0 iface bond0 inet manual slaves eth0 eth1 bond_miimon 100 bond_mode 802.3ad bond_xmit_hash_policy layer3+4Does it support LACP mode LAG type? I think so , not certain. I think above code means yes.
As the default mode of LAG is static << Static mode is disabled .it's better change mode to LACP. So I suggest you change the LACP mode and test again.
Question - in addition to changing mode to LACP ,
should the lag mode be set to statuc enabled?
- Retired_MemberJul 10, 2017
Hi robfantini,
Yes, I notice that on proxmox host the LAG mode is 802.3ad, it's LACP already.
It's ok. Just keep current config and test again. And please give detailed test step and result for us to analysis further more.
- robfantiniJul 11, 2017Aspirant
OK this is the next test
Our issue is pinging imap server 10.1.3.16 . and other virtual machines. ping works with 1/0/1 and 2/0/1 .
If 3/0/1 and either other port is used ping fails.
So tried this test:
1- use ports 3/0/1 and 1/0/1 .
2- reboot proxmox server on that lag.
ping still fails to imap .
same with 2/0/1 and 3/0/1
I can ping some virtual machines on the same vlan as imap.
all hardware systems can be pinged.
I can ping all systems from desktop and elsewhere.
will continue testing , checking configuration etc.
If you have suggested tests let me know.

Do you mean there is packet lost when LAG member contain 3/0/1?
Could you please test as below step? With the test result, we want to narrow the problem further more.
1. Shutdown LAG member 1/0/1 and 2/0/1, only leave member 3/0/1
show port-channel 11
show port status 3/0/1
then check ping result, is it ping failed?
2. Shutdown LAG member 1/0/1, leave member 2/0/1 and 3/0/1
show port-channel 11
show port status 2/0/1 & 3/0/1
then check ping result
3. Shutdown LAG member 2/0/1, leave member 1/0/1 and 3/0/1
show port-channel 11
show port status 1/0/1 & 3/0/1
then check ping result

OK I am using lag 1 not lag 11 .
And 2 ping tests, 1 from switch , one from host connected to lag.
Note we are only using 2 wires attached to host .

'then check ping result : works from switch and host . when both plugged in.

In your description, when unplug 1/0/1, please check host LAG status, does LAG only have one active member port(connect to 3/0/1)?
As I cannot understand that: if shutdown 1/0/1&2/0/1, only leave 3/0/1 in the LAG, the ping result is success both from Switch and Host. Why the result is different between shutdown and unplug?

please re check what I wrote: for 1ST test:

Could you please change port-channel load-balance to default 3, and try again?
- robfantiniJul 14, 2017Aspirant
using hash mode "3 Src/Dest MAC, VLAN, EType, incoming port" fixed the issue.
would you like me to do any more testing?
