Change management IP

Goodmorning, a new client of ours has an existing netgear GSM7328 FS switch in there network. It has an management ip4 adres of 192.168.2.1

We would like to change that in to a different ip. The config of the switch is simple and everything else is basic, so no vlans etc...

When we try to change the ip, subnet and gateway and leave all other fields unchanged we get an error that the vlan id is in use by the routing vlan. It states it uses vlan id 1.

When we look at the vlan routing tab in the switch,  we see that there is a routing vlan 1 set up, with the current ip 192.168.2.1 of the switch. We cannot edit that field. If we remove the entry we cannot login to the switch on the exising ip anymore. Is it posible to change the management ip in another way? Were not at location atm so we do not prefer to use the console cable.

    Hello BarryBakker,

    Welcome to the community!

If you have lost access to the switch using the web-ui your best chance is to reset it to factory default or use ezconfig (with console cable). See the manual for setting up the IP address of the switch (please click here and see page 148).

Let us know if you have more questions.

    Thanks,

Thank you for your answer. But we can still acces the switch through the web gui. But we dont see an option there to change the routing vlan id to the new ip. There is no edit button. Is that by design? If we remove the routing vlan id we get cut off and we need the console cable.

        Hi BarryBakker,

Maybe you have the IP is assigned to the deprecated CPU interface.

Running ezconfig from CLI would allow you to remove it and use the "new" VLAN interface instead.

Firmwares 11.x don't use that CPU interface anyùpre that was configured via network parms: http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/27499

        Hope that helps ;)
