Insight 5.10.11 Release Notes: WPA3, WiFi 6 APs and More

Insight Version 5.10.11

NETGEAR Insight made significant updates in its 5.10 release. A key addition is Insight management of NETGEAR's new business-grade WiFi 6 wireless devices.

What is WiFi 6 and why is it revolutionary?

WiFi 6 is the next step in the evolution of WiFi technology, and is based on the IEEE 802.11ax standard, which is marketed as Wi-Fi 6 by the Wi-Fi Alliance. WiFi 6 delivers robust WiFi performance, almost doubling WiFi's capacity to support concurrent users. Insight implements standards-based WiFi 6 to manage NETGEAR's powerful new WiFi 6 devices, offering improved performance, coverage and capacity to meet your business needs:

    • Greater speed and higher throughput.
    • Better coverage with improved range and fewer dead spots.
    • Higher device density as WiFi 6 can handle a greater number of concurrent devices and users than previous WiFi generations.

NETGEAR WiFi 6 delivers even more advantages

NETGEAR builds on the advances of WiFi 6 by boosting performance across bands, facilitating the integration of WiFi 6 devices into your existing wireless networks, increased support for PoE, and enhanced WiFi security:

    • New indoor and outdoor WAX610 WiFi 6 devices.
    • Dual Band WiFi 6 on both 5.0 Hz and 2.4 Hz bands to support up to a 70% performance gain.
    • Compatible and full performance with 802.3at (Poe+).
    • Compatible and operational with 802.3af (PoE) at 60% throughput.
    • Compatible with the WAC540 and WAC564 devices in an Insight Instant Mesh (with the band shared between backhaul and devices).
    • Per-SSID VLAN provides a secure WiFi network and client isolation.
    • Client isolation within the same SSID (Default for Guest WiFi SSID)

Insight Managed WiFi 6 AX1800 Dual Band Access Points

The NETGEAR Insight Managed WiFi 6 AX1800 Dual Band Access Point Model WAX610 supports IEEE 802.3ax, four streams of WiFi 6, and dual-band concurrent operation at 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz with a combined throughput of 1800 Mbps (600 Mbps at 2.4 GHz and 1200 Mbps at 5 GHz). Model WAX610Y is an outdoor access point with an equivalent feature set. Both devices are Mesh capable and can participate in a WiFi mesh along withWAC540 and WAC564 devices.

WPA3 Authentication

Improved WiFi security with higher-grade WPA3 authentication allows Insight customers to apply more secure authentication methods provided by this next generation of Wi-Fi security. With the upgrade to WPA3 standards, customers can avoid the security vulnerabilities found in WPA2 authentication.

8 SSID Support

Customers can configure up to 8 SSIDs on 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands in dual mode. Previously this was restricted to a maximum of 4 SSIDs in dual mode, and up to 8 SSIDs in either 2.4GHz or 5GHz mode, providing more flexibility and choice to the prior support for 4 SSID in dual mode and 8 SSID only in either in 2.4GHz or 5GHz mode.

Application Landscape Mode

Insight now supports Landscape Mode on tablets. Note: Only Insight pages will display in Landscape mode. Other pages such as Account Login, Technical Support, and Payments still display in Portrait only.

WBC502B2 Preconfigured Bundle

The NETGEAR AirBridge Bundle comes with preconfigured master-satellite setup. You can connect your AirBridge Bundle master to your network, and place your AirBridge Bundle satellite at a detached site. When powered on, your AirBridge Bundle devices automatically establish a point-to-point connection, and all you have to do is align the antennas for optimal signal strength between these two devices.
The WBC502 family also adds supports for Hong Kong & Singapore to the European SKUs.
