528x ram/memory upgrades

I am looking to upgrade the ram in my 528x, currently with the stock 4g.

Has anyone upgraded theirs yet?

Is there a list of compatible ram or details/specifics somewhere?

also considering upgrade to 628x, does it use the same ram?

I'd like to get at least 32gig ram going, I have a huge plex library and a several apps running in the background and want to provide plenty of additional ram for caching and reducing my load averages and avoiding swap use.

I've already disabled unneeded services and protocols to help reduce load, but I need some breathing room.

Re: 528x ram/memory upgrades

The 600 series can use a higher speed RAM than the 500 series

RN526X/RN528X: 4 memory slots (Max: 64GB), support up to DDR4-1866
RN626X/RN628X: 4 memory slots (Max: 64GB), support up to DDR4-2133

We don’t support upgrading the RAM. You do so at your own risk. Be sure to run the memory test after replacing the RAM.

Thanks for the reply!

does either 528x or 628x come with, and/or support ECC ram?

Re: 528x ram/memory upgrades

Yes they come with ECC RAM and that’s what you should use if you do decide to replace the RAM.

Re: 528x ram/memory upgrades

Very strange, I spent a few minutes googling and keep seeing something like this example:

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820326400

This shows both ddr4 *and* ddr3 ?!?!

16GB 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM ECC Registered DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900)

I can't seem to find anything that has ddr4-1866 / PC4-14900

I googled the part # TS512MLH72V1H and got https://us.transcend-info.com/Embedded/Products/No-688

which handily shows the specs and part #'s for other sizes too

Now, trying to find those in stock somewhere for a reasonable price..

Re: 528x ram/memory upgrades

For future reference for anyone looking to upgrade their 528/628:

I ended buying this ram and it past a couple memory tests and I have been running it for a bout a week now with no apparent issues.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KK8XNLA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I only bought 1 stick so far. Been monitoring with htop and while it has always pushed close to 4gig ram usage, I haven't seen it meet or exceed yet, rest is used for system cache.

And while I am still bottlenecked by cpu at times, the overall system has been much smoother and more responsive.

Anyway, so far so good on the ram upgrade.

Re: 528x ram/memory upgrades

Just to add - for anyone else searching the forum.......

I used these for a 628x:

Samsung M393A2G40DB0-CPB0Q

4 x 16GB to give the full 64 GB supported (memory repurposed from a decom'd server)

Specs here from Samsung:

http://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/products/dram/server-dram/ddr4-registered-dimm/M393A2G40DB0?ia=...

Memory test passed and no issues to date.
