Sorry for the extra photo posts- they are not needed.
Looks like it's an issue resolving host names. Even with entries in Hosts and LMHosts I'm unable to ping server names (ips ping fine). Pinging local host is able to resolve so Hosts file is working.

Does net view hostname or net view ip-address show you the NAS share list?

Net view \\hostname returns access denied. Net view IP is not an option (only hostname).
When inputting a non-valid share name, I also get an access denied error. When removing the entries from LMhosts I'm unable to connect to the server.
In addition to our ReadyNAS 3138 I've setup shares on a windows 10 workstation (under SMB1) and Raspbian (SMB1) but am not able to connect due to the same issues.
Either routing to the server, or routing to the share on the server is not working as inteneded.
