Goodbye Infrant ReadyNas 600

I am going to retire my trusty old Infrant ReadyNAS soon. When I bought it in September 2005 it was pretty much state of the art and its run virtually non stop since them, Its been through 2 complete sets of disks (I change them all when one fails) and its been a great little machine.

Thank you Infrant for bringing an affordable NAS to the home market.

Thinking of replacing it with a ReadyNAS Ultra or Pro? If so, you'll need to transfer your data across your network to the new NAS.

I reckon I could probably sneek that past the wife, can we have that as an optional extra trim on future lines?

My Infrant has been semi retired for some time its only active task is holding photos from cameras which have been recording a time lapse of a new house being built. However it was very usefull recently when my HP WHS NAS failed. Story here http://111thestreet.posterous.com/one-nas-or-two.

I do have to get the photos of the Infrant and that is proving to be a problem as my backups to an attached USB drive keep failing and making the Infrant inaccessable.
  • I am still using my ReadyNAS 600 from Oct 2005 and believe it or not still using the original disks. I have a spare and back up periodically to a single TB drive on my new machine, but it just keeps humming along. I did replace the fan last year, but otherwise nothing negative to report. I update the RAIDiator on semi-regular basis (currently 4.1.8 )

It never shuts off unless the power goes out. :)

Nice. I believe you. Great to hear. If you use Twitter I'm sure @yohdah or @chirpah would love to hear that, or if you use Facebook you could mention at http://www.facebook.com/NETGEAR.ReadyNAS or if you use Google+ you could go to https://plus.google.com/107689211378624727495/posts

Believe it or not chirpa has had disks in a unit for a very long time as well: https://twitter.com/#!/chirpah/status/157107566118313986

@lowbit I've got (4) Maxtor 300GB running in a ReadyNAS 600 since October 2004. One has 112 reallocated sectors, otherwise still going.
  • My ReadyNas 600 purchased in 2006 also died recently. Well not died, the PS failed.

I purchased a NV+ and installed the same original disks. A very easy upgrade with no data loss. I will continue to use the 600 too once I find a new PS.
