Replace ReadyNAS RND4000v2 with new 214 or similar
My ReadyNAS is now 8 years old and I feel it is time to replace it probably with an RN214 If I buy the new NAS with 1 drive and copy the data on to the new drive can I then take the old disks out...

Thanks all for your contributions. The existing NAS, being rather old, contained 2 x 1GB and 1 x 2GB. Not a lot.
Have decided to go for two new 4GB disks.

I recommend NAS-purposed or Enterprise disks. Many desktop drives are shifting to SMR, which is not a good technology for RAID.
Seagate Ironwolf or the older WD40EFRX are good NAS-purposed choices. The newer WD40EFAX is also SMR, and I recommend avoiding that one.
