printerqueue's name
When I attach a printer (for the first time ) to the nas automatically a queue appears in the printers menu. Everything works as expected...
Now I replace this printer by another one of the same mark and type. The name of the queue is now different.
I would like to give the queue the old name because I want to use the old printer somewhere else and don't want to change queue names on other PC's.
I have edited the printers.conf file and restarted the cupsd.
It did give then an error:
E [08/Jun/2015:03:53:11 -0700] get_printer_attrs: resource name '/printers/iP360
0_ser_1' no good!
E [08/Jun/2015:03:53:11 -0700] get_printer_attrs: resource name '/printers/iP360
0_ser_1' no good!
I [08/Jun/2015:03:53:26 -0700] Listening to 0:631
I [08/Jun/2015:03:53:26 -0700] Configured for up to 100 clients.
I [08/Jun/2015:03:53:26 -0700] LoadPPDs: No new or changed PPDs...
What is happening here? Has my printer an inbuilt printer name/id? Does cups sees that it is a new printer
and then thinks it must have another queue name?
What must I do to simply change change a printer for another while not having to change queue names?
For this Nas:
netgear
Model: ReadyNAS Duo [X-RAID]
Serial: 24M3037B02A3F
Firmware: RAIDiator 4.1.14 [1.00a043]
Memory: 1024 MB [2.5-3-3-7]

- rocusAspirantThis is not caused by the printer. When I attach this printer to another DUO it gets the normal name.
The readynas gives the queue a different name. Even after a reboot the queue name differs from the original name.
The first printer I attached got the name: iP3600_series.
The second printer got the name (after disconnecting the first): iP3600_ser_1.
This must be stored in some file on the NAS. I can imagine that the NAS gets the printer name from the USB port. The next printer gives problobly the same name to the NAS but a different serial number. So the NAS gives the queue a different name (understandably).
I would like the printer to have the old name. So the question is where stores the readynas duo information about (previously) attached printers? - rocusAspirantI think I have found the solution:
there is a file:/etc/frontview/usb/printers.conf
iP3600_series11A05D!!iP3600_serie!!Canon iP3600 series
iP3600_series109248!!iP3600_ser_1!!Canon iP3600 series
This file contains the printer names, some serial number of the two printers and the queues names they are given.
So when you change a printer by an identical one and you want to give that the same (old) queue name, you first must delete this file. (or edit it)
I am sure this will solve my problem.
So sometimes stating your problem in a forum helps you to solve your problem (yourself) !!
