WN2500RP sets up A-OK & then proceeds to intermittently drop signal 2-3x an hr...?

I have a Netgear router, and the wireless signal it emits works fine. For the downstairs portion of my home I use the Extender to connect my wireless devices. The Extender connects just fine to my devices and internet. However, seemingly at random it will drop the signal and all attached devices will lose connectivity for 3-6 minutes.

My extender is positioned only about 25 feet from the router, the signal strength shows to be between 68-77%.

I've been through Netgear's PAID support telephone help six times this week to no avail. We've tried resetting, power cycling, firmware flash, etc., nothing works.

One thing that one technician noted was the Channel in the Extender's interface is grayed out to "Auto" and we were unable to set the channel. He wasn't sure why.

Any suggestions?

  • Have you tried changing the channel on the router itself?
Possibly someone nearby is using the same channel.
  • I have a similar problem with the router dieing intermittently. I cannot access the router via 192.168.1.1, so have no way of setting the channels. What can I do to access the router?
