WNR2000v4 as a Repeater questions
About three years ago I bought the wireless router WNR2000v4 to give me wireless in my apartment.
I've moved and got a different provider for internet. The cable box came with a wireless router built in, but the signal strength stinks in my office down the hall from the TV where the cable box is.
I was hoping to set this WNR2000v4 as a repeater to boost some signal, but I'm having trouble figuring it out. I checked the manual and it says I have to log in to the netgear router to do that. When I power it on and try to log in through the computer it's not allowing me because the router isn't connected to the internet.
How can I get this thing set up. I'm a complete novice when it comes to this stuff.

Netgear routers make poor repeaters. They use a crippled version of an old repeater protocol called WDS. I would not bother trying to set it up unless you want an insecure network. Besides, both ends of the Wi-Fi connection need to run WDS in order to work.
You can set up the router as an Access Point. This requires, however, a wired connection back to the main router. You can use Ethernet, Powerline or coax. If this is not practical then you'll have to buy a new range extender.
