Hi guys and gals,I’m pulling my hair out here.Ive spent a fortune on this router but can’t get it working at all.Im probably not as clued up as you guys so be kind I really need help.I’m vdsl fibre from the cabinet so don’t have a modem on the wall so I needed a modem or a modem router in bridge mode.I read in one of the forums that the bt openreach modem would work.Bought one but for the love of me can’t get the internet light to turn from orange to white.please some one help.

I originally tried that and had problems,it was easy to set up in bridge mode I followed a really easy guide but still no white internet light.hence why I just wanted a simple modem.

KH has been fantastic what a guy.unfortunatelynot fixed so its down to Fraser,if he can’t solve my problem,does anyone want to buy a brand new xr500??

I spent a hour on Sunday after a few hours on Saturday trying again, the XR500 and most modern Netgear routers dont suport PPPoA and Hull's kcom is a seperate entity to BT or any other network, its quite the odd one. The modem will sync but the network layer isnt getting information, so sadly the OP had to return the router. I have given feedback to Netgear about this, so maybe one day it might be added, Fraser.

Does your modem need PPoE? Which means, do you need to enter credentials like a username and password?

If so, make sure you do this on the router?

If you connect directly to your BT hub, do you get Internet?

  Thanks for reply I’m not on by fibre I live in Hull we have a seperate telephone exchange who also supply our fibre lightstream.Im currently using a Technicolor modem router.im pretty sure you do need to sign in but the modem which is a bit openreach modem I was told in a netgear forum would work for vdsl from the cabinet which I am.Ive no settings for this it’s just plug and play lol.Need help setting it up on XR500 as I don’t know what I’m doing.

    What model router is it? Has it a setting called bridge mode?
