what actual modem do you have?
Try this.
Power off both the modem and the router. disconnect everything from both (even coax from modem).
Wait 2 minutes.
connect coax back to the modem.
power the modem on and wait 2 minutes.
connect the modem to the router.
power the router on and wait 2 minutes.
Try it then.

The modem is an Arris Surfboard SB6190. The extra step of disconnecting the coax as well seems to have done the trick, thank you!
