XR500 router

Does XR500 gaming router have duma OS 3.0 or it is just exclisuve to XR1000 alos, does still XR500 get support till today or Netgear stopped it's support.

is buying XR500 still worth it in 2021 or I need to look for something else than XR500 that newer?

finally does Netgear provide good customer support and after market support or just premuim subscription to get proper support?

Thank you.

  • DumaOS 3.0 for the XR500 is currently in beta and can be downloaded here:

    https://community.netgear.com/t5/Nighthawk-Pro-Gaming-DumaOS-3-0/New-Firmware-v2-3-2-120-XR500/td-p/2071196

We're currently pushing to get it out of beta and into a full release as it's in beta for a while now, but we've still got a few issues to fix. We've no plans to stop support for the XR500 anytime soon so it's still a safe buy in my opinion.

In terms of support, these forums are one of the best places to go as there's two of us here that can answer any questions about DumaOS and the community is also very clued up on the software. Hardware support you can go straight to Netgear for, I don't think you need their premium support for this.

I am thankful for your help and answering my questions in really short time.

but, what about live chat support from Netgear it self and how they handle customers issues?

also, does this router has adabtive QOS that manages gaming traffic automatically and adapt it self to the network as I close game open another change my subscription speed from my ISP.

I like set and forget not to log in to the router so much I like it to do it's thing even update it's firmware automatically. does this one offer such things?

will XR500 get WPA3 support too?

also, does it has firmware recovery feature it is similar to flashback in motherboards to help fix firmware corruption and other issues that might happen.

      Thank you.

I'm not sure about what Netgear support covers and doesn't cover to be completely honest, I work for Netduma so I can help with anything related to DumaOS, but not always everything related to Netgear.

QoS can be put into an Auto-enable mode so it only kicks in when it detect high priority traffic. You can either tell it what to consider high priority, or you can use the default rule which classifies a wide range of games! This means when you're not gaming, your network speeds will be as normal.

I'm not sure as to whether it will support WPA3 in future, the network settings of the Nighthawk Pro Gaming range are from Netgear so it would be a question for them.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
