Cannot disable DHCP

I'm trying to disable the router's DHCP server following the instructions here on netgear kb and unfortunately the LAN menu is grayed out. The router is in WAP mode and I'm thinking that DHCP wasn't disabled when switched to AP mode AND LAN settings are disabled so I can't go in to make the change that way. Just getting it into AP mode was a nightware, so if the answer is that I need to switch back to router mode to turn that off this thing is going back. As an IT professional for over 20 years, it boggles my mind why configuring this consumer router is so painful. Anyone know how to disable DHCP when in WAP mode?

Selecting WAP mode should disable the router's DHCP server.  What
evidence have you that it's still active?

I've never seen selecting WAP mode fail to disable the DHCP server.
This is one of the primary differences in WAP mode.

I figured out that the router apparently caches the DHCP server for wireless clients. Rebooting doesn’t seem to work either. I replaced it with a Ubiquiti and all is good the netfear unfortunately is going back.
