R7000 Major and constant Packet Loss Issues
A few months back I decided to upgrade my xfinity provided modem/router, I never had ANY problems with it but wanted to stop renting it
I bought the R7000 and an ARRIS SB6190 modem. Ever since then I experience sever packet loss at random times whenever Im gaming, on any game, it does not matter. Ill get anywhere from 1 to 90% packet loss and it occurs randomly, any time of the day.
Im connected via WiFi and have these problems, my brother who is connected via ethernet, never experiences any issues, im providing that bit of info in case someone asks me to connect via ethernet, I know there is no problems if I am, however I am many rooms away and WiFi is the only option. Can anyone help me figure out whats going on? Its been months and I just have to hope when i want to game I dont experience the packet loss.
Im on Firmware Version
V1.0.11.126_10.2.112

Are you using smart connect?
Are you connecting to the 2.4ghz or the 5ghz signal? 2.4ghz is much slower and more sensitive to interference.
If you're "many rooms away" and connected to the 2.4ghz, it could be from interference on the 2.4ghz. You could try changing what channel the router is broadcasting on for both the 2.4ghz and the 5ghz

Hello thank you for your reply, I should have mentioned i have trouble with both 2.4 and 5, i experience the high packet loss on both, in fact I cant remember the last time I had it on the 2.4ghz band, so as far as I know this happens all the time with me being on the 5ghz band
I dont use smart connect, wouldnt it just keep me on the 5ghz band like i already have it?

Wifi is not the only option. For things that do not move around, an alternative is Powerline Ethernet which uses the mains circuit as an alternative to Ethernet cables.
As plemans says, relying in wifi to connect across many rooms is asking for trouble.

Interesting, I did not know this was an option, so I could plug this into an outlet in my room and run the ethernet directly into my pc?

Yes, powerline works like that.
With the r7000, we used to have to recommend that users with issues used the 1.0.9.42 version. I haven't had to do it in a while because the newer ones have been pretty solid. But maybe yours is one with issues. Have you tried the older version of firmware?
