Netgear Mr60 has been doing a boot loop/power cycling thing for past two days. Solutions?

Netgear Mr60 has been doing a boot loop/power cycling thing for past two days. Solutions?

I have a mr60 and 2 ms60 sats. The main issue seems to be with the mr60.

The modem lights cycle from dark to amber, to flashing white/solid white, then blue. It will stay blue and work normally for 10-15 minutes, and then start the process over again. The sats seem ok, they just follow suit with whatever action the router is taking.

My internet itself is fine according to my provider. (Small company who answers phone calls directly and actually responds to text messages, great service!) And all the hardwired devices work normally.

I am not a tech person, but can read and follow directions fairly well. So far, I have tried these internet provided solutions.

-Reboots of all systems. -Changing lan cables around

changed secondary DnS from 1111 to 8844 (per similar issue on netgear community forum) this has slowed the cycle, but not eliminated the issue.

Current firmware version 1.1.7.134

My experience with 2 netgear products over 6 years... "they work great, until they dont."

What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6 is recommended.

What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router and 📡 satellite(s)? 30 feet or more is recommended in between MR📡 and MS🛰️ to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected.

Has a power off for 1 minute then back ON with the ISP modem and router been performed since last update?
Be sure to restart your network in this sequence:
Turn off and unplug modem.
Turn off router and computers.
Plug in and turn on modem. Wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on the router and wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on computers and rest of network.

Has a factory reset and setup from scratch been performed since last FW update? A complete pull of the power adapters for a period of time after the factory reset then walk thru the setup wizard and setup from scratch with a wired PC and web browser. Recommend setting the default DHCP IP address pool range to the following after applying and a factory reset: 192.168.#.100 to 192.168.#.200.

Or the modem.

I have seen that sort of behaviour associated with plugging a router into a modem/router. The two devices can argue over which should be in charge.

The freaky thing is that they can play nicely for months until something puts a spanner in the works.

Two routers on your network can cause headaches. For example, you can end up with local address problems. Among other things, the other router can misdirect addresses that the Netgear router usually handles, such as routerlogin.net or the usual IP address for a router, 192.168.1.1.

This explains some of the other drawbacks.

What is Double NAT? | Answer | NETGEAR Support

Unless you have specific reasons for using two routers – to create two separate networks for example – it is often easier to use just one router and then to set up the second router as a wifi access point. Netgear advises this, as does just about every site you will visit.

It may be possible to put the modem/router into modem only (bridge) mode and then to use the second device as the router. Sometimes it is easier to put the second router into AP mode. But that has its own drawbacks:

You aren't in one of those "hot spots" where the weather is mad and overheating everything?

No, it's all pretty normal here.

My setup is a bit strange, hopefully I'm explaining this right. I live in a rural area. Our local ISP uses a dish system, micro dotting? Or micro dishes? Maybe... dish on the house has power to it and a small box in the house my lan cable comes off of. Its not really a modem exactly, just internet piped in the house.

Either way it's worked since February just fine. And now all of a sudden not (like you stated above)

If I unplug the mr60 unit and let it set for a few hours plug it back in, it works fine for several hours, then its back to the boot loop scenario.

Frustrating...

Re: Netgear Mr60 has been doing a boot loop/power cycling thing for past two days. Solutions?

Ibmve worked through most of thebutems above.

Our localnsmall business ISP uses a dish system, not really sure about their equipment name/style. But it has always worked and they put a new unit on my home last winter when I and the people who's signal bounces off my house were having troubles. All hard wired items work just fine no matter what the router is doing.

My home is 3 levels 3500ish Sq ft. Boxes are 25-30 feet apart. Have NOT tried the factory reset yet.

Sounds like a satellite or mobile (cell) system.

They can be hard to diagnose, but not something that should create the symptoms you see, especially in a system that has worked as expected for some time.

Have you tried messing around in the router's logs?

View and manage logs of router activity in the manual.
