D7800 & R7800 AP Mode
I recently purchased a D7800 modem router and decided to add the R7800 to increase wireless around my home. The problem is that when I set the R7800 in AP mode and login to the router settings, it still shows as setting DHCP. It does not matter how many times I reset it, remove AP, resart AP, setup AP manually, turn off in lan when in router mode, it still reapears. I have spoken to support but was unable to fix the issue. I have since returned and received a replacement and it is still the same.
Any ideas please???
I am wondering if it is just a glitch and DHCP is actually turned off but the screen information is incorrect.
Thanks
I think I managed to sort it.
On the R7800 Selected advanced settings - Router/AP/Bridge Mode - AP Mode. At this point selected use fixed address, restarted and DHCP was off.
On the D7800 (main modem router) in lan setup - reserved the ip address for the R7800
Lety see how it goes.
Thanks for your help :)

Can you manually change the 7800s IP address from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.78, then disable the DHCP server on the LAN side, then connect a LAN cable to one of the LAN ports, NOT WAN port, to the D7800 modems LAN ports?
Thanks for replying, can you elaborate a little. How can I change the ip address of the R7800? and if i plug into both lans i cant see the R7800.
Thanks Mark

Go into Advanced settings under LAN and you should see the routers IP address of 192.168.1.1 change it to .1.78. Uncheck the Checkbox for DHCP server. This will disable this as your D7800 will be the DHCP server. Save settings and reboot or power off then back on the R7800. Connect 1 LAN cable to one of the LAN ports in back of the R7800 and connect the other end of this cable to one of the open LAN ports in back of the D7800. You'll be able to access the R7800 web page at 192.168.1.78 when in this configuration.
- If I connect lan to lan the internet connection light will not come on, on the r7800

It's not supposed to. The Internet LED is for the WAN port. In this configuration, the WAN port is not used. LAN settings are not needed since DHCP services will be coming from your D7800. This is ok.
- Plus, all of the settings for lan are greyed out
- Ah thanks, I will give it a try when home. I really appreciate your help.

This is the same as using AP mode on the 7800. AP mode should work however somethign else could be happening. See if this alternative method works.
- I have double checked the manual to see if I have missed something and it says to connect the lan of the d7800 to internet port (wan) of the r7800??

Id try the LAN port. Being set for AP mode, WAN port is not needed and not used for this mode I normally LAN port is needed since all DHCP services are disabled. Possible that NG designs the use of the WAN port when in AP mode. Please try the LAN port first using my suggestion and see. You can always try whats listed in the user manual as well. Both methods should work. I haven't had a chance to test mine as it's the main host router for me. :smileyvery-happy:
