R9000-Defective 2.4ghz chipset

Hi There,

It would appear that my 2.4ghz radio/chipset is dead on my R9000.

It happened right after flashing to the latest firmware file.

I know this router is 3+ years old, but is there any way to send this in for repair, or can you point me in the direction of who performs repairs on these R9000's?

When I connect serial to it and use putty to watch the output, the router will yield the following:

CPU Temperature: 35
thermaltool: wifi1: No such device
2G WiFi Temperature:
5G Temperature: 42
11AD Temperature: 53.964
Antenna Temperature: 51.875
thermaltool: wifi1: No such device

This was a very expensive piece of hardware to go bad in 3 years- I'd appreciate any assistance.

You might make contact with NG support to see if they have such a service. Might incurr additonal costs for support though.

Another option if the router can't be repaired is to disable the wifi radio on the router fully and connect up a external 2.4Ghz wifi AP for 2.4Ghz signals. Or even turn off both radios and connect up a newer dual band AP ethernet connected to the router. Can connect up another R9000 in AP mode or find something like a Orbi system or anything to run in AP mode while using the R9000 has the main host router.

  • Might anyone know the best way to utilize putty and the R9000's serial connection to 100% rule a hardware failure vs. simply software?

Might include soldering a JTAG connection to the motherboard and connecting up a USB to serial adapter.

Something you might find more information on over in the DD-WRT forums.

The R9000 already has the serial headers on it and I already have the router open and have already putty'd into it.... But I digress, this clearly isn't the place to be asking. I was hoping an actual Netgear support person roams these forums.... Can anyone point me to the right person?
