RBR750 satellites disconnecting
Hi,
I see more reported issues with disconnecting satellites in the community, but I have not been able to find the solution yet.
Since a couple of months my satellites randomly disconnect from the router. The workaround I have implemented is to power the satellites down and then power back up. They reconnect, but perhaps even 12 hours later they show disconnected again. I have tried to remove them, factory reset, everything I can think of but the problem persists.
It is driving me crazy. I haven't made any significant modifications, excepts those firmware updates. I am infrequent physically near the devices, so I'd like to understand what I could do remotely to improve the situation?
Best, Joost.

Re: RBR750 satellites disconnecting
What Firmware version is currently loaded on the RBR and RBS?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6 is recommended.
How many RBS are deployed?
What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router and 📡 satellite(s)? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR📡 and RBS🛰️ to begin with depending upon building materials when wired or wirelessly connected.

️What channel configurations are currently set on the router?
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?

Please excuse the silly question..... Is the situation that they display as disconnected (on the Orbi 'app' or the web interface?) and
- They really are disconnected? a device wired into one of the satellites has no internet, or
- They remain functioning and the issue is the network information is incorrect?

Re: RBR750 satellites disconnecting
Hi,
There are no silly questions, just silly answers 😊. I cannot reach my IOT devices nor can I stream to my media player. Therefore I assume they really disconnect.

Re: RBR750 satellites disconnecting
Hi,
Firmware RBR: V7.2.6.21_5.0.20
Firmware RBS: don't know, will check over the weekend.
Modem is a Genexis Hybrid Live! Titanium, in bridge mode. Firmware is managed by Internet provider.
CAT6 cable in place.
2 RBS deployed. RBR on ground floor, one RBS 1st floor and one RBS 2nd floor.
Size home is 3 floors, each floor 10 feet apart (height). Distance between RBR and RBS1 = ~15 feet and RBS1 to RBS 2 also ~15 feet.
Channel config: 2,4 GHz on auto, 5 GHz on 36. Not many WiFi neighbors, can only see network from next door.

Re: RBR750 satellites disconnecting
What browser are you using? Is this seen with MS Edge, FireFox or Opera browsers?
"Distance between RBR and RBS1 = ~15 feet and RBS1 to RBS 2 also ~15 feet" This is TOO close to each to other. 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR📡 and RBS🛰️ to begin with depending upon building materials when wired or wirelessly connected.

Re: RBR750 satellites disconnecting
Hi,
I use Google Chrome, and I observe the same in Edge and on the Orbi app (iPhone). Total size of the home is ~1900 sqft split over three floors.
I see the satellites connecting serially, so RBS1 to the RBR and RBS2 to RBS1. Are you suggsting that I decommission one RBS?
Best Joost.

Re: RBR750 satellites disconnecting
For that size of home, even with 3 floors, the RBR and just one RBS would be needed. 30 feet distance in between the RBR and one RBS to start.

Re: RBR750 satellites disconnecting
Allright, thanks for the advise. I will start with modifying the setup to one RBR and one RBS when I am home over the weekend and let you know the result. I will also check the firmware version of the RBS.
Best Joost.

Re: RBR750 satellites disconnecting
Firmware checked and router and both satellites were on the same firmware version. Now shutdown the satellite on the 1st floor and just connected the one on the 2nd floor (removed & factory reset and reconnected). Also rebooted the router because the web frontend was dead slow. Router & satellite are now ~30 feet apart. The Satellite now alternates between good and poor backhaul status (depending on 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz connection type). I'll have to wait and see if I can stream media and whether the situation stabilizes.

Re: RBR750 satellites disconnecting
Might bring in the RBS towards the RBR until the status keeps at GOOD status.

Re: RBR750 satellites disconnecting
I am a bit conused now. Please help me understand. I have moved both satellites further apart and achieved the 30 ft distance between them and the router. What I observe now is that the 5Ghz connection is rated "poor", and they fall back to 2,4 Ghz and get rated "good". And that is what confuses me, when the satellites are too far I get poor connection a/o slow connection, when they are too close I get disconnected. I thought the whole idea of satellites was to get good high speed WiFi coverage in the whole house? It appears to be quite sensitive.

Re: RBR750 satellites disconnecting
The size of the home and building materials and distances play a roll in that. Why I suggested that you turn OFF one RBS and move that one RBS around until you can see if it can get stable on 5Ghz with a GOOD status first, then see if statbility will come with the one RBS deployed. Having the 2nd RBS deployed in a smaller sized home along with what the RBR is doing could cause problems as what your are seeing here. Reason for the RBS is changing to 2.4Ghz is that with building materials and distance is causing the 5Ghz signal to degrade to a point where the signal is not good thus the RBS will change to 2.4Ghz and try that signal for quality and stability. Nature of the beast with 5Ghz due to it's high freqency and being impacted by building materials.

Re: RBR750 satellites disconnecting
Back on base. Whilst during the week the two satellites continued to work (as far as I can see, because I get no notifications if connection is poor or fails - suggest update?), I conclude that the 2 satellite solution doesn't work as mentioned in this thread. Both satellites spontaneously started to reboot last Friday evening (no apparent reason, e.g. firmware upgrade). Consequently, I have powered down one salellite and removed it from the setup. Connection to other satellite is still poor, but stable. I can't move the closer due to the fact they are on different floors.
I will leave the setup as it is. Won't be home again until end March. Then I will continue the investigation.

Any progress on this?
