Connect to Apple Time Capsule Remotely on Orbi RBK43

Hello,

I switched from an aging Time Capsule to Orbi. I used to connect remotely to the hard drive on the Time Capsule and can't seem to access the drive anymore. I attempted to port forward but while trying to connect even locally using the Mac's connect to server, the connect hangs and fails.

The drive shows up as a sharedrive, however when I use the external IP and port the connection fails.

Has anyone connected to the Time Capsule? Separately, also have a WD MyCloud, without using their App, I was able to connect remotely to this. I haven't been able to connect either.

Thank you in advance.

- Which port are you using to reach the drive remotely?
- Please activate UPnP in Orbi and ATC
- Check out this article https://support.apple.com/en-in/HT204618

UPnP is activated on the Orbi, the ATC does not have that functionality.

I have BackToMyMac set up, however I’m attempting to connect with a mobile device using either SMB or AFP.

I’ve tried a couple different ports including the ones listed on the UPnP Orbi page.

Re: Connect to Apple Time Capsule Remotely on Orbi RBK43

Your ISP modem already had a built in router and wifi:

http://www.ubeeinteractive.com/products/cable/wireless-gateways/dvw32cb-advanced-wireless-voice-gate...

This would be a double NAT condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT
Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.
3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the Orbi router to the modem, configure AP mode on the Orbi router. https://kb.netgear.com/31218/How-do-I-configure-my-Orbi-router-to-act-as-an-access-point and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7LOcJ8GdDo&app=desktop

Thanks for the quick answer. You are correct, the modem has a built in router, however my ISP charges a monthly fee to utilize it, since I Opted out, they place the modem in Bridge mode which I confirmed through logging in.

I believe that would cover the 1st option you have referenced

Ok, making sure which mode the modem was in.

You might check with Apple and see about using some port foward configurations for Time Capsule in the RBR to see if any of there configurations will help get the TC remote connection going. There maybe some specific Port Forwarding values needed.
