50 mbs full duplex switch?

Hello,

I have 300/300 fiber at my house. I have 5 computers in the household that regularly are used for heavy bandwidth downloads. I have a netgear router (GS308E) to connect all the computers using ethernet. My netgear router only allows me to throttle the bandwidth to each port to 100 mbs or 10 mbs (full duplex). I enabled 100 mbs per port on the router last night (I'm thinking 10 mbs is way too slow for our needs) and after doing speed tests on all the ports, only 2/5 of them actually reached 100 mbs. The other 3 only hit about 30 mbs.

So I did some research on this forum and changed some settings on the NIC cards and the I got the other 3 computers up to 100 mbs this morning.

Now, in theory I can really only "fit" 3 total computers on my 300/300 fiber with this current set up at one time. So I'm left with 2 options to my knowledge.

  1. Upgrade my fiber to 600/600 which solves the problem but costs another $50/month. I'd rather not do this.
  2. Find a switch that allows me to dial in the full duplex to 50-75 mbs.

I can't seem to find a netgear switch on Amazon or anywhere that has this function of limiting each port to 50 or 75 mbs full duplex. Does anyone know if such a switch exists?

Much appreciated!

It'd be rare for any computer to constantly be using that much bandwidth.

I've got around 75 devices right now on my network and might hit upwards of 200-300mpbs when everyone is home and active.

Have you actually monitored what your throughput is and not just what the link speed is?

Each computer is doing machine learning, and currently consume roughly 100 mbs when they are active.

I just upgraded my fiber to 600/600 since I do not believe there is a piece of hardware that allows for less than 100 mbs full duplex per port and more than 10 mbs.

      Appreciate the response though, thanks!

    Hello braysurdi,

Welcome to the NETGEAR Community! 🙂

I don't think there is a switch where you can limit the port speed to those values. What you may be looking for is a switch where you can limit the bandwidth on a port. The GS108Tv3 has this feature and you may want to read about Interface Shaping Rate and Interface Ingress Rate Limit from the document below:
