Help setting up Auto-Voip and LLDP-MED
Hi Guys,
I have recently been thrown into the deep end, and I would appreciate any help I can get here.
I have a NETGEAR GS310TP switch. In this switch, I have 1 Computer and 1 Desk IP Phone connected (with more to come).
The NETGEAR switch is plugged into a wall port, which patches into a HP Procurve Switch, which is then connected to our on-prem Avaya Phone Switch/Server.
Currently our issue is the IP phones have been setup on our data network (VLAN 1), and they are taking up many IPs from our DHCP scope. This I causing mayhem, and I've been tasked with getting the IP Phones onto their own VLAN (42). VLAN 42 is chosen because the Avaya Switch has already been programmed to know VLAN 42 is for VoIP, and the Avaya Switch is managed by a 3rd party.
I have set up VLAN 42 on all the HP Procurve Switches and confirmed they had been deployed correctly. The last step is configuring our NETGEAR switches (dotted around the site) with VLAN 42.
I have set up a VLAN 42 easily enough; my issue now lies with configuring LLDP-Med and Auto-VoIP. I have never had to do this. Furthermore, I have never utilised NETGEAR's kit, so I'm unsure how to set this up.
What I want to happen is when I plug an IP Phone into the switch, the phone automatically is told to use VLAN 42. This will free up our DHCP scope as the phones will be on a separate LAN and broadcast DHCP to the Avaya Server.
My issue is this process needs to be automatic - as in it doesn't matter which port you plug the phone into, it will be told to use VLAN 42, and alternatively, if you plugged the computer into that port at a later date, it would automatically be told to use the data VLAN 1. It needs to be automatic because we have over 25+ switches on site, and I cannot manage them all (especially since they like moving the offices around monthly!)
I understand that LLDP-Med allows the switch to know what type of device is connecting, and, therefore can tell the device what VLAN to use. Im not sure where Auto-VoIP falls into this, but I know it is essential to get what I want working.
Hopefully, you understand what I'm talking about, and hopefully, someone out there can give me a hand. I'm available for chat or teams meetings to get this sorted out.
