MILAN / Avnu Alliance compliance and certification for Pro AV over IP Switches
Do the Pro AV over IP Switches switches with AVB from Netgear comply to AVNU Alliance specifications
Especially: Do they comply to MILAN???
Avnu Alliance offers two types of certification:
There are also switches included.
Are/will the switches Pro AV over IP Switches with AVB from Netgear be certified by AVNU? Which switches? Which certification?
What about the M4250 serie?
As you can see it is a concern:
Please clarify the future proof of Pro AV over IP Switches from Netgear with regards to AVB and MILAN.
Thanks.

Re: MILAN / Avnu Alliance compliance and certification for Pro AV over IP Switches
Hi @AW_GearNet
Thank you for your questions.
Here are the answers:
1 - M4250 series are under certification process at the AVNU for AVB, this is our goal to get the entire series certified.
2 - M4250 series, support MILAN which doesn’t require any re-certification for Ethernet Switches at the AVNU. Any Ethernet Switch certified for AVB is de facto certified for MILAN.
3 - M4300 series and M4500 series don't support AVB, at all.
I hope this helps!

Re: MILAN / Avnu Alliance compliance and certification for Pro AV over IP Switches
Hi @AW_GearNet , Hi NETGEAR Community,
It is my great pleasure to deliver this important update.
The entire NETGEAR AV Line M4250 Series is fully certified by the AVNU Alliance: https://avnu.org/avnu-certified-products/
This certification for AVB is valid for MILAN (there is no MILAN re-certification for Ethernet Switches, this is only for endpoints).

Re: MILAN / Avnu Alliance compliance and certification for Pro AV over IP Switches
Hi Community,
Let me provide a quick example, with our very popular 8 ports PoE+ model called M4250-10G2F-PoE+ also called GSM4212P.
The ordering SKU is GSM4212PA-100NAS in North America, GSM4212P-100EUS in Europe and GSM4212P-100AJS in Asia Pacific.
The AVB license ordering SKU number is AVB4212P-10000S. This is a licence registration number coming in an email.
This switch is perfect for conference rooms, board rooms, and any other small scale AVB and MILAN installation. Cost effective, it provides more value than other "pure AVB 5 ports switches" out there that are not manageable: in addition to AVB, you can easily configure additional profiles on the same switch, for instance for video and/or other audio CODECs such as Dante, AES67 and Q-SYS.
First, it is best to upgrade the switch to the latest software (13.0.2.24 to date) from here: https://www.netgear.com/support/product/GSM4212P.aspx#download
It's fast and easy to add the AVB license to the switch, if you connect the switch to a network where there is internet. From the AV user interface, you will simply copy/paste the licence number in Configure/AVB License.
To achieve the same level of “pure AVB switch with AVB on all ports, plug&play” as other 5-port typical AVB switches, I would advise to just go to Configure/Network Profiles, and edit the already existing “Default” VLAN 1. Editing it, you can change its template from Data to AVB, and then all ports will do AVB. Apply, then Save at the top and your switch is ready to go!
Of course, if you want to keep VLAN 1 for other things, you can also create a dedicated AV Profile selecting AVB in the list, and then assign a new VLAN ID and just select a few ports for that profile. You can run as many different profiles as you want in an M4250 switch.
Then entire NETGEAR ProAV Engineering Services team is at your service for any help, please contact us at ProAVDesign@netgear.com.
