Error backup job USB---ABC: destination cannot be accessed
A couple times I week I plug in an extrenal USB drive to the NAS and from the NAS gui I run some backups, manual start, not on a schedule. About every 3 or 4th time I do this procedure I get a error ...

Hello FG,
I am not sure what may causing this behavior, as for the Readynas device there is no special configuration on it to detect the external USB hard drives. When you connect the USB hdd to a computer does it take same amount time to detect it when you plug it to the NAS. Have you tried performing a disk check on the USB hdd from a windows computer?

Hello FG,
The NAS will automatically assign a name to any USB hard drive that connects to it, there was a feature request where to can rename the USB hard drive but I believe it is still pending. I believe we already cover all the possible thing we can do on this concern. Again there is no special configuration on the NAS to detect the USB hard drive, there is just a possibility the NAS just take that amount the time to detect and mount the USB hard drive.

I really don't think it is a time delay issue, but I will take very details notes the next few times I plug in the drive......how long before I start task, if I do anything in the GUI 1st........
My reasoning is because when it fails, I can browse re-input the destination and seconds later it works. And like I have said before I get the email from the nas telling me that an "external device has been connnected" ....I get that message way before I ever start the task.
Thanks for the help.

Under the tasks and in the settings of a task, on the "backup log" tab........how would that log be emptied unless you click the clear button?
This may be a symptom of the problem I am continue to have with the backup destination not be found.
But I am noticing that the log tab is clear for several of the backup tasks. These are tasks that are run weekly, so there should be info in those logs.

Hello to all, this is my first post.
I had the same problem in the past with a seagate 3TB disk (USB3),but I was not able to find a solution.
I have found only a workaround that helped to make stable the backup procedure: in the destination property
the software gave me the option to select the usb port instead of the specific disk itself.
The side effect of this choice is that I'm not able to select a particular disk directory.
However I've noticed that the USB,especially USB3 protocol, management is a little buggy in my opinion: every time I connect a USB disk ,NFS and Samba servers stop and restart and vmware gives the famous warning " All Paths
Down state" . I don't know if this beaviour is expected, however I considerer it strange and I think I will open a discussion for it.
