How does this sound?

Got my ReadyNAS ultra 4 for about 2 weeks now and I must say i'm pretty happy so far :D
Just did a couple of read and write tests and thought i'd share them with the community :)
At first I did a couple of drag and drop tests from my Mac Mini and ReadyNAS and vice versa. The Mac Mini is connected over GE and the ReadyNAS is only connected via 1 GE link.
On both the read from NAS and write from NAS i got about 50 MB/s
Then I tried it using a RAMDISK on the Mac Mini thinking that the built in HDD could be a bottleneck for testing and what i found was incredible. On the read test I now got 116.1MB/s with peaks of over 126.6MB/s and on the write tests I got 48MB/s does that sound about OK? For the read tests i'm pretty much at the max for 1GE link but the on the writes i get about half the speed I got on read. Does that sound about normal?
I'm using 3 Samsung Spinpoint F4 2TB drives in X-RAID 2. Does adding one more disk do anything with the performance? Does it help or hurt it?

Performance will always be limited by the slowest bottleneck. As you've found when creating a RAM disk, you can really see that a single non-RAID desktop system has pretty slow disk I/O compared to the ReadyNAS. I suspect that you may be hitting some sort of bottleneck on your Mac Mini. Maybe you need to buy another Utra to test performance! :wink:

Bonnie (add-on disk diag) reported
1 disk - 59.7 MB/s
2 disks - 110 MB/s
3 disks - 219 MB/s
4 disks - 319 MB/s
So the disk throughput definitely goes up as you add more disks.
However, the iometer speed did not change on my Windows 7 machine. No matter how many drives were installed, I still see 55-60 MB/s of read performance, and 80-83 MB/s of write performance. So there is more investigation needed on that.
