How to remove the Readynas Pro CPUfan
Hello, I asked if it was possible to remove the HDD from a broken Readynas Ultra6 and transfer it to a new Readynas. I was unable to get a used Readynas, but finally was able to get a used Readynas...

Thank you for your response.
I will try the replacement fan when it arrives.

Over the weekend, I replaced the CPU fan.
It took some time to remove it from the heatsink, but after the replacement, it is working fine.
The fan I replaced is a Chinese fan I bought from Amazon, but it is quieter.
Thank you very much for all your help and information.

Great, so it's not yet carry worn-out bearings, handled a lot of dust, was not operated for a decade or longer, and does probably not supply the airflow the original fan does. The typical catch-22 for what appears to be "more quiet" - even the expensive brands are doing the same.

If by "more quiet" you just mean no longer making the excessive (likely bearing) noise, then that sounds great. The original is also Chinese, and getting anything else that fits would be very hard to do.

Hello everyone.
When I wrote that it was quieter, I meant that the old fan's unusual axial noise was gone. The new fan is max 2500RPM, so I think it probably has less airflow than the original fan, but there was no other choice for a 15mm high, 4-pin fan.
The CPU in my ReadyNAS Pro is an E5300 (45nm Process), and it is only a simple file server.
Since I am using it only as a simple file server, I think it will probably be fine.
(I can see the temperature in the admin panel and it hasn't changed much from the original fan)Just to be safe, I will maintain the original fan with grease and keep it as a spar
