Media Centre Software
NAS Drive details:
Model: ReadyNAS Duo [X-RAID]
Serial: 1VB388R700620
Excuse the total newbie question, my brother set up my NAS drive and I can do some basic bits... My question basically is whether or not I can install any media center software on the NAS drive?
I've got a 3yr old and want him to be able to use the NAS to watch the films we have saved on it but being that he cannot read yet I need to be able to get images so he can select films. I've tried MP3 tag to add the images to the files but this isn't coming up when I'm viewing the files via my Samsung Smart TV. Having done a bit of research online I'm on the understanding that the Samsung TV doesn't support the file images so I was wondering whether installing a simple media centre can do this for me. Or would this software need to be on the TV rather than the NAS. I did load Plex onto the NAS drive but not sure if I did it properly, happy to pursue this if this is the route I need to go down.
Sorry for the millions of questions, I'm just looking for some clarification as to whether I am asking for the impossible.
TIA
Emma

Is your NAS running 4.1.x firmware or 5.3.x firmware? 5.3.x systems can run an older version of plex, but the older 4.1.x systems can not.
Another way to get what you want is to install the plex server on a PC, but keep the media files on the NAS. Then it doesn't matter what NAS model you have.
This of course assumes that your Samsung TV runs plex natively. Mine does, but the interface to launch it isn't ideal.
