"NAS Device you selected is on a different subnet" error
Hi folks
I have a ReadyNas Pro that I use as a media server. It dropped off my LAN-connected WD Live TV the other day (after, I think, me expanding the IP address range for my Billion 7800N - too may wireless devices now in the house!) and I was endeavouring to get it reconnected but I seem to have made a mess of it.
RAIDar shows it as being there with the IP address of 192.168.168.168 (which also shows on the screen of the ReadyNAS) - all green lights on RAIDar too - but when I attempt to locate, no lights flash and, if I attempt to Setup I get the error "The NAS device you selected is on a different subnet. To access this device change your IP address to 192.168.168.x, click "rescan" and try again.
Now I've tried to set a new IP address on my IP4 settings on the adapter (but I admit, my skills here aren't strong at all  ) and that sometimes stops that message coming up, but I still can't get to FrontView through 192/168/168/168/admin (note that when I have done this, I've lost internet connectivity as well).
FYI I'm running Windows 7 on my desktop
I'm at a complete loss as to how to reconnect to the ReadyNAS (which isn't showing up anywhere on any other connected device either) and would appreciate any guidance from you experts! :?
Thanks very much in advance

- StephenBGuru - Experienced User192.168.168.168 is what the Pro uses if it can't get an address from the router. It sounds like you have somehow turned off your router's DHCP service.
What router model are you using? Can you let us know how the LAN side is currently configured? - JaydubsAspirantHi Stephen. Thanks very much for your reply.
The modem/router is a Billion 7800N. DHCP is activated on the router and the ReadyNAS is the only network item that I don't seem to be able to contact
I actually connected up an older router and still couldn't reach the ReadyNAS either - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserWell, there are two things you could try.
One is the direct-connect. The procedure is sketched out here: http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/boot/how ... _pc_or_mac
Basically temporarily assign your PC a static address of 192.168.168.169 and a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0
Connect your NAS directly to the PC ethernet card (a normal cable is fine).
Then you should be able to reach frontview with https:\\192.168.168.168\admin and see your shares with by entering \\192.168.168.168 in windows explorer. So you'd be able to see the logs, back up the data, etc.
The second is to try an OS reinstall. This will reset your NAS IP configuration to use factory settings, and will also reset your admin password to netgear1. It will not destroy your data (at least it should not). This is a boot menu option - http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/boot/how ... _boot_menu Use the instructions for your model. - JaydubsAspirantThanks Stephen - I am away from home now for 48 hours but I will try this as soon as I return
Very grateful for your advice - JaydubsAspirantHi Stephen - sorry for the delay in coming back to you.
Reassigning the static IP didn't get me in, but the OS reinstall did. Took some other fiddling to reconnect everything but I'm there.
Thank you so much for your help. You absolutely saved me!
Thanks a million
