Ten yr old router. How do I get it to work without plugging into Verizon router pls? Thx.

   Did you expect the WNDR3400 to access the Internet with no connection
to the Internet?

   If you want an Internet connection, then you need an Internet
connection.  That usually means an ISP.  The service from some ISPs
requires a modem.

   Do you already have a "Verizon router"?

   Is there some actual problem which you are trying to solve?  I don't
understand what you're trying to do.
