R6300 router loses internet connection when GS205 switch is connected
I have a R6300 router that has been working great for a number of years. I have a number of devices wired directly to it (Magic Jack, etc.) and everything works flawlessly. The 2.4 and 5G wireless also works flawlessly. Just recently I bought a GS205 so I could connect direct to router through switch to increase my internet speed for desktop and laptop PC in my home office. It worked great for about a week. Today I had no internet connectivity at all - no wireless or direct ethernet connection - nothing at all worked. I trouble shooted for a number of hours and stumbled upon the fact that when I unplug the new GS205 switch everything starts working. Plug it back in...everything "dies". There has to be some logical explanation for this and hopefully an easy fix (since originally the GS205 was working like a champ) - hoping one of the subject matter experts on this message board can give me the answer on how to fix this.
Thanks in advance for your time and assistance!
Jeremy
Well, it happened again. Not sure what the cause is, but after a few days of everything working, everything died on me - no wired or wireless internet connectivity. I unplugged the power to the GS205 and everything is instantly fixed. Then I plug the power back into the GS205 and reconnect everything one by one and the wired connections work. Truly makes no sense to me why this keeps occurring, but at least I have a fix for it now.

One other note - just to confirm my wiring is good, I took the ethernet cable that runs from my router to the switch and instead connected it directly to my laptop. I got immediate internet connectivity and everything else (all other connected devices and wirless) continued to work fine. However, as soon as I take that same ethernet cable and run it to the switch - and then connect power to the switch, it "kills" my router. I then disconnect power from the switch and everything is fine again. Additionally, I have another Netgear switch that I wasn't using and tried connecting it (to make sure it wasn't a faulty switch) and it caused the exact same problem. Sure hope someone has the magic answer to this problem...

DexterJB and TheEther - you both seem to be the only ones that respond to these posts. Can you please respond with a suggestion of what may be wrong?
Jeremy,
I saw your post earlier but could not immediately think of an explanation. Since you specifically asked for my input, can you describe exactly how everything is connected? Perhaps you have a forwarding loop somewhere.

Thanks for responding TheEther. Regarding your question, I have my R6300 router connected to my Motorola cable modem. One of the ports on my router runs to a GS605 switch and everything works fine. I just connected a GS205 to one of the other open ports on my router. As mentioned above, when I first connected it everything was fine - it worked for about a week flawlessly. Then out of no where I lost all connectivity - wired and wireless. After a good bit of trouble shooting, my issue resolved itself as soon as I disconnected the new GS205 switch. I've since tried reconnecting the GS205 and as soon as I do I lose all internet connectivity - wired and wireless. Makes no sense to me. Hoping you have a suggestion on what I can do to get this working.
