N600 Wifi Dual Band USB Adapter

Hi, Just bought this at PC world the salesman told me that i can plug this in the back of my sky HD Box to make it wireless and it will then connect to my sky router that provides wifi to my home.

i loaded the software cd and plugged it into my comutor and now have a solid amber light.

everytime i take it out and plug it in the sky box nothing happens.

have i bought the wrong item?

  • I have no personal experience with the Sky HD Box but everything I've read says that the USB port on it cannot do anything except provide power. I'm sorry to say but the salesman was mistaken about using it for a wireless adapter.

     

    Now, if your Sky HD Box has an Ethernet port on it, then you can connect a wireless extender to it and accomplish the same thing. You need an extender that will support an Ethernet client. Not all extenders provide that support. In the N600 class of extenders with support for Ethernet, Netgear has the WN3500RP. If your router supports 802.11ac, you could also move up to the EX line of extenders for faster Wi-Fi.
