Can't see folders, etc for my Ready NAS Duo

Folks - sorry if this has been posted before (having trouble understanding the lingo in some of these forums, ok with computers but not great at networking!!), but I'm on my windows 7 pc trying to see the folders on my ReadyNas but not quite working for me.

When I go to "My Computer" and click on "Network" I can see my ReadyNAS listed as a "Media Device" and as a "Storage" device. When I clieck on the "media device" version it brings things up in a Windows Media Player type environment that I don't seem to be able to naivigate to find folders and such. When I click on the "storage" version it simply directs me to the ReadyNas Frontview wed page. I'm wondering if this is somehow set-up wrong?

On my iMac I can see my ReadyNas in Finder and when I click on it I can see all the folders and simply navigate them the same way I would any other normal folders I would have on a local drive.

Any insight would be much appreciated - this has been very frustrating as love the benefit of having a centralized NAS, but right now only able to use from my Mac!!

  • Call up Windows Explorer in the Windows 7 OS and type \\ip.of.your.nas (i.e. two backslashes and the ip of your nas).

    See if this helps.
  • Thanks - that worked! Only problem is I have to do this every time now (i.e. re-input the IP address into Windows Explorer), is there no way to fix it so that it shows permanently under My Computer?
  • i would start by looking for the DHCP reservation table on your router and fixing the IP address.
    what router you using ???
