The only related forum post I could find was from 2013, where StephanB was asking about the chrome download settings. I'll take a look at that.
user ledridge on this post seems to have the same issue as me

Have you tried multiple different web browsers?
Tried in IE 11. So it can't be my machine settings (alone)...
a) ver 11.102.10586.0. ctrl-click, double-click and shift-click all worked
b) ver 11.64.10586.0. ctrl-click, double-click and shift-click all worked
I've also tried updating chrome to latest version and restarting it, that did not fix the problem. I will try it again. I will clear the cache and app history, then restart my machine, then report back.

HI mdgm-ntgr,
Any further thoughts on this?
I've noticed that the double-click works fine from the 'shares' screen, but does not work from the 'browse' screen, both in the ReadyNAS admin application. So perhaps there is a difference between how that is implemented that could provide a clue as to why the second one doesn't work, but the first does?
That is, on both of the laptop and touchscreen tablet, when I navigate to 'shares' tab in the admin application, and then click on the 'shares' section, I can double-click on the 'backup' share I have created and it opens, as expected. This shifts the UI into the 'browse' section. On both computers, in both browsers. As expected.
From the touchscreen tablet, in chrome only, from the shares / browse section, if I double-click on the 'backup' folder, just the button bar appears. from here i can click browse.
From the laptop, in either browser, or the touchscreen in IE, from the shares / browse section, if I double-click on the 'backup' folder, the folder opens.
As before, the ctrl-click and shift-click from within the shares section are only working properly on the laptop or IE11, not the touchscreen tablet in chrome. On the tablet, the shift-click or ctrl-click behaves exactly like the regular click or tap.
for fun, I used the script on this page to prove to myself that the ctrl-click and shift-click were working, as least with one implementation of this feature.

Any ideas how to fix or deal with this, so I can mutli-select several files to copy/delete etc?
Maybe it's not really a problem with the Readynas software? Do I reinstall chrome? disable all it's plugins? I already disabled popup and add blocking, to no avail.
Thanks for any advice.

I've tried WIN+R "chrome --profile-directory=Profile1 --disable-extensions --incognito" but with no better results.

Also, realized one is touch-screen enabled, though I'm not using it I'm using a mouse. Perhaps that is related. However double-click and ctrl-click / shift-click work fine in windows explorer.
