Disconnecting Issues using DLNA

Disconnecting Issues using DLNA

Have an ultra 6 plus. Have my DVD collection ripped and installed in the Video directory. I can play all the files on my computers. I have 3 devices, XBOX, a Samsung Smart TV, and a Blu-Ray player which can all see the video directory and the files I have listed there. I can start to play a movie on all the devices, but anywhere between 2 minutes and 15 minutes, I get a "connection lost" (bluray), "server no longer available" (samsung), "Lost Sorce" (xbox). Now when I exit from the device, and go back to the main menu, all the files are there as if nothing happened (in other words, its NOT disconnected). I'm assuming the ReadyNas is somehow "Hic-cup'ing" (my new word for the day). I have a gigabit wired network (no wireless) so it cant be a traffic problem. Any suggestions. Id hate to think I spent all this time ripping my movies and cant watch them on my devices. They DO play for a short time so the files must be correct. Ive rescanned my files with no errors. Help!

Re: Disconnecting Issues using DLNA

What version of RAIDiator and what version of ReadyDLNA?

Re: Disconnecting Issues using DLNA

RAIDiator 4.2.27

Not sure this is correct, but it says v1.1.1 at the bottom of the ReadyDLNA streaming services tab. If that's not correct, where would I find it?

Absolutely the same story on my ReadyNAS104 with latest firmware (6.1.9)

Re: Disconnecting Issues using DLNA

If you download your logs and look in upnp-av.log does it mention a version of minidlna ?

Also does that log give any clues as to what is happening?

Re: Disconnecting Issues using DLNA

You could install the Toggle ReadyDLNA Debug add-on and see if that gives more verbose logging (just don't forget to install it again to change the setting back after you are done).

Re: Disconnecting Issues using DLNA

Hello,
I've got a simmilar problem. My Samsung Smart TV also sometimes got disconected. Sometimes just in the middle of the movie whole DLNA crashes. For a week now I got disconnected always in the end of the movie (works on more than just one movie), like 2 mins before the end. But not from DLNA, just the stream, because I ended up in folder of that movie and can play it again. When I scroll at the end, I've got disconnected again. It doesnt have to be the exactl moment, but its in the end +-20 sec. I doubt it would be corrupted file since it does this with more movies.
We have two exactly same TV's, both connected to NAS via wifi router, where I set routing on ports 21 and 80, and both gets disconnected sometimes.
Any suggestions?

Re: Disconnecting Issues using DLNA

Hi all I am after some help too. I have been running a ReadyNas Duo since 2007 and it has been using DLNA on a Samsung TV for the last 4 years with no problems at all. Today I set up my new RN104. After updating the FW (6.2.2) I wanted to just quickly check all was on and just quickly dragged a film on to the RN104. Ever 5 to 15 mins the box would just disconnect from the TV. After alot to web hunting I tried a few things including switching to static IP's and nothing worked until i unplugged one of the network cables from the box. I had noticed every time the box disconnected the old Duo would spin up as if I have clicked on "My Network" on the Desktop.

I have never had a device with 2 network cards in it at the same time so I a bit out of my depth here but I read in the ReadyNAS OS 6.2 Software Manual, about "Bonding" the 2 adapters to act as 1. Is this a good idea to try? Any setting surgestions? Or has anyone else tried this to fix the DLNA disconnecting problem?

UPDATE : Just put the second network cable back in after watching a film for 30-40 mins with no prob and was disconnected again within 10mins.

Re: Disconnecting Issues using DLNA

There's no real benefit in using bonding with the RN104, since the CPU isn't powerful enough to fill a single gigabit connection. If you set bonding up incorrectly you can create some packet loss - which could result in DLNA drops and other misbehavior.

If you have jumbo frames enabled on the RN104, perhaps try turning them off also, and see if that makes any difference.

The 6.3.3 beta is supposed to have a more efficient kernel, so if you are inclined to take a risk you could try that. (viewtopic.php?f=154&t=79670) You will be able to downgrade to 6.2.3 beta, but perhaps not to 6.2.2.

You could also try plex, and see if it has the same behavior.

Re: Disconnecting Issues using DLNA

I am also having ReadyDLNA problems too (RN204). Sounds like the same issue with my Samsung SmartTV.
So far I have found no solution and don't really know where to look.

However Plex seems to work wonderfully, although my girlfriend said it too disconnected, I haven't seen this myself and she may have been using the native Samsung DLNA rather than the app.
