How long should backing up to USB take?

I recently backed up my 1.65 TB to a USB drive (first backup). Used rsync and fast USB writes. It still took me around a week(!) to finish.
I then did a factory reset om order for me to expand my NAS capacity (changed raid type). I then assumed that a restore from my USB drive would require a week again. I restored using cp (copyright command) and only 2,5 days eas needed. A bit odd.
