Missing support f ReadyNAS RND4000 v3 !!

Help !
I cannot find ANY support on NETGEAR pages that explicitly is valid for my RND4000 v3
When i search for ReadyNAS NV+, i only get v1 and v2 as possible selections.
It is the same on many different pages (FAQs, downloads, etc, etc)
WHY ?

My problem is this:
I have run it with X-RAID on 4 x 1TB SAMSUNG HD:s for more than a year w no problems.
But now it is almost full.
Bought 4 x 3TB Seagate ST3000DM001 this summer after i found it specified on a "harddisk compability list".
But I have struggled with making second backups of all data until last week.
So, now, finally, I i "hotswapped" slot 4.
The NAS logged "Disk fail event" and "Disk add event" as expected.
Then logged "The disk attached to channel 4 could not be used. The most common reasons are RAID resync in progress, faulty drives, and disks that are too small to be added to the array"
I assumed it was in resync progress.

The NAS where (is) still online, fully functional, all as it should.
(But now unprotected)
But after flashing with LED 4 and not showing anywhere in RAIDar (Frontview) any sign of it being resyncing for over 34 hours, I shut it down and rebooted, hoping this would initialize the new disk.
But after reboot it went into exactly the same status.

After another 12 hours, I ordered a firmware update from Frontview including a volume scan.
So it did, upgrading firmware from 4.1.7 to 4.1.13.
It took 4,5 hours to perform the volume scan, displaying "Volume FS 01% --> 99%"
And then went into exactly the same status again.
LED 4 is flashing and there is nowhere I can see a "resync" status.

So my questions obviously:
* Where/how can I see if it is in a "resync" progress ?
* Is it actually resyncing and it will take more than 38 hours ?
* I cannot find my RND4000 v3 in the Harddisk Compatibility List selections again. Where is it !?
* Why is there no support page for RND4000 v3 as there is for v1 and v2 ?

Please advice !!!

Re: Missing support f ReadyNAS RND4000 v3 !!

You have an NV+ v1. All sparc systems (running 4.1.x firmware) are v1. http://www.rnasguide.com/2012/01/09/how ... -or-nv-v2/

Your NAS doesn't support 3 TB drives - it is limited to 2 TB.

Re: Missing support f ReadyNAS RND4000 v3 !!

Yes it does !
It says "up to 12TB" on the box it came in !
Why would it be v1 when it says v3 on the label ?

Re: Missing support f ReadyNAS RND4000 v3 !!

Check the guide in the link, it explains the label confusion.

If you are running 4.1.x firmware, your NAS does not support 3 TB drives. 4.2.x (and 5.x.x, 6.x.x) systems all support 3 TB drives.

Contact support if you like (support.netgear.com), they will tell you precisely the same thing.

Re: Missing support f ReadyNAS RND4000 v3 !!

So is it possible to upgrade to a 4.2.x firmware ?

Re: Missing support f ReadyNAS RND4000 v3 !!

Sparc systems can only run 4.1.x firmware. Upgrading beyond that is not possible.

Did you just buy this unit, or have it for awhile? The v1 has been EOL (end of life) for a few years. Even the v2 is EOL now, with the RN1xx replacing it.

Re: Missing support f ReadyNAS RND4000 v3 !!

Damn !
I feel sure I got the info that it was upgradeable to 12TB when I bought it.
It was some 1,5 yrs ago, and the retailers page for it is no longer there.

Thank for all Your info and patience.
I will order a 104 tomorrow.

Re: Missing support f ReadyNAS RND4000 v3 !!

When you get your 104, update it to 6.1.5 and after verifying the update is successful do a factory default. Then transfer your data across your network to the 104.

Re: Missing support f ReadyNAS RND4000 v3 !!

Hello Y'all !
Got my 104, upgraded FW to 6.1.5, installed 3 x 3TB that was intitialized and synced to X-RAID2 one by one and it all went by the book.
But now when I want to transfer all files from my old NV+, I cannot find the 104 on my local network.
It appears as a Mediaserver only.
I can only reach data storage through the web-based interface that do not accept transfer of more than a few files at a time.
It will not work with my sync-software, (Total Commander) , and transfer this way will take forever.

When I installed my NV+ it automatically appeared on my network together with the other PC:s and with two predefined folders - Perfect !

I have tried browsing all the available settings, switching all possible modes on and off, nothing helps.
I suspect it will not be stated in the help files / documents that this is not available if it is'nt, so I hope You can help me.
- How can i connect it to my local network and make it appear w folders in my std file explorer as my NV+ do.
The old NV+ appears so nicely in all our stations, XP, Vista, Win 7 ...

Re: Missing support f ReadyNAS RND4000 v3 !!

HEY !
Now it suddenly appear at my Win 7 station after a reboot !
With folders and everything.
Typical after 3 hours of settingsfrenzy ...

Ok. So now I know it's still possible.
But it will still not appear on the XP or Vista stations after rebooting them ...
Any ideas ?

Re: Missing support f ReadyNAS RND4000 v3 !!

Thanks for the tip !
It showed where the problem lies, as I suspected.
The 104 is not connected with my local network because i have not assigned it to my workgroup (called WORKGROUP)
It shows in a "unknown" network.
Where can I assign it ?
I've looked all over in the setups in the web-based interface ... cannot find where
