Question regarding ReadNAS file system and LUN data
Hey everyone,
Looking for some guidance. I have created a few ISCSI LUNs on our ReadyNAS that we use for Vmware datastores. One datastore in particular has ran into issues that I wont delve into here save to say I cant get to the files stored on it. I tried to mount this LUN elsewhere so I could run some recovery tools against it but find im not able to browse it once I have it mounted.
As a kinda last ditch effort I Putty into the ReadyNAS itself to see how the device is storing the data under the covers to see if there was a way to move the data to say a share somewhere else, but I have found that while navigating the BTRFS filesystem underneath, I can find The Volume Subfolders and even the particular LUN folder itself, but those directories are showing up empty, even with ROOT access.
So the question I have is it possible to move ISCSI LUN data from the underlying OS of the readyNAS or even view it or has someone had a similar situation to this that they were able to get to that data?
Thanks in advance

You should see a hidden .iscsi folder in the LUN folder
root@NAS:/data/TestLun# ls -als total 32 0 drwxr-xr-x 1 root root 12 Aug 10 18:26 . 32 drwxr-xr-x 1 root root 498 May 7 12:16 .. 0 drwxr-xr-x 1 root root 74 Aug 10 18:26 .iscsi root@NAS:/data/TestLun#
In that subfolder you should find the backing store for the LUN
root@NAS:/data/TestLun/.iscsi# ls -als total 1048580 0 drwxr-xr-x 1 root root 74 Aug 10 18:26 . 0 drwxr-xr-x 1 root root 12 Aug 10 18:26 .. 1048576 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1073741824 Aug 10 18:26 iscsi_lun_backing_store 4 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 36 Aug 10 18:26 .serial_number root@NAS:/data/TestLun/.iscsi#iSCSI LUNs are raw block storage, so the contents of the backing store are opaque to the NAS.
There are some software tools that might help. For instance, ReclaiMe: https://www.reclaime.com/library/iscsi-recovery.aspx
This isn't something I've needed to do, so it is not a recommendation - just a pointer in a direction that might be helpful to you.
